A hatchback available in either two-door or four-door models, the 1983 Dodge Colt was a practical and affordable first-time buy for college students, commuters, or families. The hatchbacks came in three trim levels. Base and Custom offered two and four-door versions. The Deluxe only came as a two-door.

Base models featured a 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. A 1.6-liter engine upgrade was available with either the manual or a 3-speed automatic. All models were front-wheel drive and featured fold-down rear seats to provide more cargo room.

The 1983 Colt boasted an attractive selling price, but also great fuel economy (27/34 mpg), making it ideal for budget-minded drivers. It was a great city car and versatile. Few frills were offered inside, with air conditioning just an option.
