Very fast in it's day. 3500cc V-8 with a Borg-Warner 3 speed auto. Very comfortable to drive.
30mpg on a run; approx 22mpg around town. Cheap to repair considering it's age. Mine had twin carbs but later Vitesse had injection. 5 door hatchback.
It looked nice, practical boot with folding rear bench. Heavy car but very solid for British Leyland that built it. Rusted badly around B pillars and wheel arches.
It served me well but eventually it rusted too badly and was scrapped.Oct 10, 2009

Just looking at this lovely car (design taken from the ferarri daytona) its a classic! With a lovely comfortable interior with all the gauges you need. Performance is good even by todays standards. Rust is a big issue and theres not many about due to this. The engine is great and has been used in TVR's, Marcos's etc. Its well proven. Handeling is special and brakes dont exsist. You got to love them though.Mar 24, 2008

The Rover SD1 was launched in 1976. It is a timeless shape and still looks modern today. Great V8 engine gives plenty of power and build quality is not that bad on the ones that are left! Don't believe everything they say on Top Gear.Jan 01, 2008
