1979 Dodge Challenger Preview summaryImage

The 1979 Dodge Challenger is pretty much unchanged from 1978. This two-door coupe actually delivers a pretty quick ride for its size, thanks to a 2.6-liter, 4-cylinder SOHC engine that gets 105-horsepower. Certainly not race track material, but it has enough kick to please owners looking for something more than good gas mileage.

The 2.6-liter is optional, as standard 1978 Challengers come with a 2.0-liter, 77-horsepower engine. But in its fuel-conscious times, the Challenger ranked high for fuel economy while delivering an interior filled with creature comforts, such as cruise control, power brakes, power windows, power driver's side mirror, and moonroof.

Common complaints and repairs center around the carburetor and the appearance of cracks in the cylinder heads.
