my 1978 280z sat in a garage 3yrs,wont start if it does it will only run for 5mintues or so,then it acts like it is running out of gas

this car is a joy to drive and be seen in. it gets great gas mileage and starts right up every time. there are no leaks under the car and it is garage stored. after a few paint fix up areas and one rust spot, the paint should be top notch. This would be a great car show car for not that much more work.May 10, 2012

Bought 280z out of showroom February 2, 1978. Still have it to this day..orginal. has 178,000 km and runs like a top. Have always kept it stock. Fun car to drive. Parked it in the garage the last 20 years while the kids were being born, raised and now on there own. Will be redoing the paint, which I have kept the orginal colour. I Love my car! Nov 07, 2010

Great driver but not practical, just as expensive to maintain as any vintage car.Love the car itself but hate its federal bumpers. Ity makes me and my loved ones smile.Great acceleration, average braking and handling.The S30 chassis is the Best Datsun and Z car made.Sep 27, 2010

I just love driving this car. The drive was just out of this world. You could just feel the road when driving this car. Just a raw sports car. I loved how easy it was to change the brakes on this car. I could do both disk breaks in 15 minutes. But I got ride of the car and boy do I miss itApr 30, 2010

I love the curves. The hips are my favorite. They slope back in a classic Aston way. I love where the door handles are too. The inline six is an amazing bit of gear. You just don't see those much any more. The car running on 5 cylinders, with blown rear shocks, and glitchy brakes is still fun to drive. The car is amazing fun to drive and most of the problems are well known and easy to pinpoint. great looking and fast but but no power steering so parking is a pain. it get good gas mileage for a 1970,s sports car and maintenance is easy but parts are expensive.Oct 12, 2009

in line six that pulls hard threw all the gears and the indipendnt suspension will keep you glued to the road. The best thing about this car is the technoligy under the hood. In 1976 had a full on bosch fuel injection system that still is used today!Aug 19, 2009

fast, fun, tight performance. solidly built. original light blue, mostly stock and in great shape. expensive to repair ... got rid of it when head gasket et al needed replaced/repaired. LOVED THIS CAR. still whimper whenever i see a nice one on the road. Jul 10, 2009

From the time I had to drive it, the performance is astounding. Although it doesn't have the 0-60 time of a porsche or any other sports car of today, it sure hangs with those cars on the road. The car has great mileage, last time I checked it can do 30mpg on the highway? Add the 20+ gallon tank and expect to fill this up every two weeks at least. The interior (not on my current one mind you -_-) is very purpose oriented. The tach and speedometer in front, auxillary gauges in the center. It's gonna take getting used to the fact that most of the braking power is up front (disc brakes up front, drums on the rear) and there is that weird feeling of the rear not slowing down with the rest of the car, but that's just coming from driving an all disc brake car. I love the 2 seater 2 door. The small weight combined with a 160hp 2.8L inline 6 is amazing. The slick design is kind of late to the corvette. Its a 5 speed. Got 18s. everything is being restored. I hate the fact that Nissan/Datsun was so eager to sell the car.. that they could'nt undercoat the undercarriage better. Every other 280z i have seen, that has been drivin, has rust on three main spots. Right in front of the rear tires on the rocker panel, on the floor board, and front fender wells into the cross member. other than the rust and poor wiring done by some jackass hill billy... its a very fun car to drive.Apr 09, 2009

Removed the fuel injection and installed dual Weber carbs, headers, monza exhaust. Lowered the car with Koni shocks & springs. Installed a whale tale (don't laugh...it was cool in 1988). Oil cooler, B&M Trans Pack essentially made my automatic a manual.
When I was ready to install the fender flares and get it to the paint/body shop..I blew the engine racing a vette. ;-(

most cars in the 70 had a bad rust prolobem. so be carefull when buying a car from that era. great looks, amazing interior, and it had a solid motor. buy one only if your have to time to put in to it.Jan 17, 2008

Car is blowing out a lot of smoke and stalling out. Why is the car doing this?
I have a 1978 Datsun 280Z. The car was running fine and perfect and one day it stalled on me and would not start back up. I changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter. The car now starts, but is blowing out a lot of smoke and it smells like fuel. If I drive it, it stalls and will not pass 10 miles per hour along with a cloud of smoke behind me that looks like I am fumigating. What could be the problem and how do I fix this.
