1975 Dodge Colt Preview summaryImage

This petite rally racer was a popular Mitsubishi import branded with the Dodge name. Though an able competitor on the circuit, the Dodge Colt served well as an everyday car, able to zip around the city or suburbs with a light touch.

The 1975 Colt came in many different variations. The most economic was the 2-door coupe, available as either a hard or soft top. The next step up was the 4-door sedan. If that wasn't enough room for you, you could opt for the 5-door Custom Wagon. All trims came standard with a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine or optional 1.6-liter, 85-hp engine. For those wanting the sporty looks of the coupe, but with a little more kick on the road, the 2-door Colt GT featured a 1.6-liter turbo. On all models, a 4-speed transmission could be replaced with a 3-speed automatic.

The rear-wheel drive 1975 Colt was a no frills economy car, attractive for its great fuel economy, durable engine, and reliability. But the coupe also had a stylish look reminiscent of fastbacks, and the GT completed that package by adding more engine power and acceleration. More practical-minded owners emjoyed the cargo capacity of the roomier wagon. In all models but the base coupe, bucket seats reclined for driver comfort. 1975 represented the best year for sales of the Dodge Colt.
