why won't 65-72 "A"body lakewood ladder bars fit my 1964 chevelle "A"body car?
They say lakewood ladder bars will only fit 1965-1972 "A" body chevelle. Why won't they fit a 1964 "A" body chevelle?

If you had $2,484 in 1964, you could have bought yourself a nice 1964 Chevelle with a Malibu trim. $103 more, and you had yourself a convertible to go with your nice V-8. Today, you could have increased that investment tenfold.
The Chevelle differed from cars of its day in the simplicity of its design and size of its body. While many muscle cars had tail fins and extravagant design, the Chevelle kept is clean and simple.
The engine was a 194-ci I6, but most opted for a V8 rated at 195 horsepower. A four-barrel carburetor L77 was rated at 220 horsepower.

I have a restored 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS I checked the VIN and know that it had a V8 when manufactured. It now has a 350 ci. Is there a way or place I can find out whether it had 357 ci or 283 ci?
I have a 64 Chevelle Malibu SS, purchased originally by a family member. It has a 283 with a Powerglide transmission. Years ago I replaced the exhaust manifolds with headers (manifolds are now rusted inside and out), put a 'chrome kit' on the engine (valve covers and air cleaner... but still have the original parts), and put on dual exhaust. However, I had to replace the front bumper, grill, headlight trim... and will need to replace at least one interior door panel along with some other interior parts. I'm debating between rebuilding the engine (burns oil... bad valves or rings) and live with mediocre power and a two-speed/whiny transmission, or buying a pre-built 350 and three speed transmission to put more muscle into it. I also plan to upgrade the brakes to disc for safety (at least on the front), so based on what I've outlined, is there a compelling reason to go rebuild vs. upgrade on the engine/transmission?
Hi , In the 1964 Chevelle model their seems to be one which has the glass all down when front & back windows are down. The other appears to have a central "guide" post that stays up.Is that one of the differences between the 300 & the Malibu SS ?
