1963 Jeep Wagoneer Preview summaryImage

The 1963 Jeep Wagoneer was the first SUV in the era of the Wagoneer, which reigned from 1963-1991 under one name or another. With a Willys (pronounced Willis) Tornado 230 cubic inch (no metric system here) 6-cylinder engine under the hood, the 1963 Wagoneer came with a 3-speed manual transmission. The pair could (and still will, if you can get one in working order) combine to perform just about any task needed.

The 1963 Jeep Wagoneer came in both a 2-door and a 4-door model, and was one the of the first SUVs to really combine comfort with power. As a vehicle that you could drive through or up just about anything, the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer was also an SUV that could really be used as a day-to-day family car, not just an off-roading monster.

While owner reviews of the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer are not common, one of the best indications of the type of SUV this was is the long line of descendants it had. For 28 years, the Jeep Wagoneer was on the SUV market, a long-standing car in any model. Built for strength, power and comfort, the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer was one of the direct forefathers of the present-day SUV.
