About 2023 Jeep Wagoneer
The modern Wagoneer just debuted in 2022, so we wouldn’t typically expect much in the way of changes just yet. But Jeep has found a way to make the Wagoneer new and exciting for a second year running! The big news for 2023 is threefold: the advent of the Wagoneer L, the switch to a new engine, and the addition of a new trim. Both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer are getting a long-wheelbase “L” variant in 2023. Opting for the L ups the wheelbase of each vehicle by 7 inches and the overall length by a foot, bringing the respective totals to 130.0 inches and 226.7 inches. The extended wheelbase boosts the 2023 Wagoneer L’s second-row legroom to a best-in-class 42.7 inches. Third-row legroom is also spacious at 36.6 inches. Surprisingly, the longer body ever so slightly shrinks the vehicle’s height—the new Wagoneer L is .1 inch shorter than the 2022 Wagoneer—but we’re betting you won’t miss it with all that extra interior space. The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L are the first vehicles to get Stellantis’s brand new engines, the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinders dubbed “Hurricane.” For the Wagoneer L, this means the twin-turbo Hurricane will replace last year’s V8. This new powerplant can produce more power and torque—420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, to be exact—than the old Hemi, while also reducing emissions and improving fuel-efficiency by one to two mpg combined. Stellantis has not yet confirmed whether the Hurricane will be offered in standard-wheelbase Wagoneer models. Power in a standard Wagoneer or Wagoneer L is still routed to the rear wheels through the eight-speed automatic transmission in 2023. For buyers who prefer four-wheel drive (4WD) to the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), the new Wagoneer and Wagoneer L are still available with your choice of three 4WD systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. It may be devoid of representative badges, but this truck has got Jeep DNA, and that means plenty of off-road capability must at least be available. The 2023 Wagoneer and Wagoneer L also get a new Carbide trim. Physicists will tell you that black is not a color, but in this appearance-focused package, it’s actually four different colors! The Carbide trim starts with Black Onyx for the grille rings. It brings in Gloss Black for the wheels, grille texture, roof rack, badges, daylight opening moldings, mirror, and sill cladding. We then get Diamond Black for the lower front and rear fascia and door flares and Global Black for the seats, instrument panel, and doors. Oh, and let’s not forget the Smoke-colored accent stitching. It’s a veritable smorgasbord of dark, sophisticated neutrals. In addition to this multi-blacked-out look, Carbide-trim Wagoneers will also get a panoramic tri-pane sunroof and a “new technical hydrographic dash trim.” The Wagoneer and Wagoneer L of course offer all the tech you’d expect from a luxury SUV, including but certainly not limited to Amazon Fire TV, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa, a 4G LTE hotspot, and Stellantis’s Uconnect5 infotainment system, a CarGurus favorite. A 19-speaker McIntosh audio system is available on Wagoneer Series III and Wagoneer L Series III. The standard 10.25-inch frameless digital gauge cluster can be configured according to the driver’s preferences for analog or digital instrumentation. The 2023 Wagoneer and Wagoneer L come with more than 120 standard safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane management, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Further available safety features include traffic sign recognition, surround view camera, and drowsy driver detection, among a host of other driver- assistance options. All Wagoneer models come with Wagoneer Client Services, which includes five years of dealership maintenance, trip interruption coverage, and first-day vehicle rentals free of charge. The Carbide package will be available on 2022 Wagoneer models starting this spring. 2023 Wagoneer and Wagoneer L models are expected later this year.
