1953 Chevrolet Corvette Preview summaryImage

1953 was the year that the Chevrolet Corvette first made its appearance. Named after a ship and powered by six cylinders, all of the 1953 Chevrolet Corvettes were Polo White with Sportsman Red interiors. The 235-ci engine generated 150 horsepower, sending the two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission merrily on its way.

It's hard to believe now, but the early Corvettes were not overly popular, and Chevy almost ended their stay after the 1955 line. Thankfully, they did not, and the C1 became the first generation of America's sports car.

replicas are better performers mechanically for someone who does not work on cars like me. Nothing like a 50's vette to bring back fond memories.Jul 31, 2007
