The Volvo XC60's current nationwide average price is $30,988, and its lowest point over the past year was $28,891. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — the Volvo XC60 earns strong marks from owners across the lineup. The all-generations owner rating is 4.69/5 across every model year in the data.

The main tradeoffs that show up repeatedly are jerky acceleration and braking in some years, tight rear-seat legroom, and occasional concerns about value for the money or electronic reliability. Even so, the XC60’s blend of safety, comfort, and upscale presentation keeps it appealing for used buyers.

37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

• Owners rate the Volvo XC60 between 3.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most worth watching on older, higher-mileage examples where electronics and other age-related issues can become more noticeable.

What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC60?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and steer assist
• Infotainment: a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg in combined driving, but on a sunny 88-degree day, the XC60 T5 returned 24.7 mpg on our Southern California fuel-economy loop. On the extended mountainous vehicle evaluation route, we saw 21.7 mpg.

Which Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Volvo XC60 offers these trims:

• Core: The entry trim starts the lineup and gives you the XC60’s clean Scandinavian cabin and premium feel.
• Plus: This trim adds more equipment while staying close to the value end of the range.
• Ultra: This is the best-value trim, pairing the richer cabin with upgrades such as Nappa leather, premium wood trim, and the more upscale interior presentation.
• Black Edition: This trim adds blacked-out styling details and a more distinctive appearance.

What Volvo XC60 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC60 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.

Those higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, color, and price. They also sit close enough to the newest models to deliver modern features while still offering used-car value.

What is the Volvo XC60's resale value?

Most model years show clear year-over-year price declines, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. The newer models are falling too, but the smallest drops are concentrated in the most recent years, so they’re still commanding stronger prices than older examples. Overall, the table points to a market where used buyers can find meaningful value across much of the lineup.

The 2025, 2024, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volvo XC60 safe?

• 2026: 4/10
• 2023: 10/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10
• 2018: 10/10

Should I buy a used Volvo XC60 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.1% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.73%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 37.6% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.6%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $42,564. The Volvo XC60 offers a calm, upscale cabin with a strong safety-first character that makes it easy to live with every day.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, flowing to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the powertrain features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter/generator and regenerative braking.
• Tech: A larger, high-resolution 11.2-inch touchscreen display debuts for 2026, and Volvo Car UX provides access to Google built-in, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Gemini, and Google Play.
• Safety: The XC60 has an oncoming collision mitigation braking system, intersection braking assist, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist.
• Starting price: Prices range from $51,095 to $62,195, including the $1,395 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
