Customer summary
The Toyota Tundra has consistently impressed owners over the years with its powerful engines, spacious interiors, and reputation for reliability. Drivers appreciate the smooth ride and capability of this truck, especially for towing and hauling. Many highlight its durability and strong performance across various conditions. However, some common complaints include less-than-ideal fuel economy and outdated technology compared to competitors. The Tundra's build quality and comfort remain strong selling points, but higher prices and certain features being lacking have caused some hesitation among buyers.

The main tradeoffs are a polarizing design, fuel economy that trails some rivals, and some interior and feature-content criticisms in recent years.
31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tundra models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Toyota Tundra for its reliability, durability, and strong long-term ownership appeal. Expert reviews also reinforce that reputation by highlighting its sturdy construction, smooth ride, and capable performance.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tundra between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the Tundra’s long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to condition, maintenance history, and model-year-specific wear than to the truck’s core reputation.

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, standard on all trim levels
- Infotainment: an 8-inch touchscreen with Toyota’s native infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: the best fuel economy you can get is an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in combined driving
Which Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Tundra offers these trims:
- SR: The entry trim is the work-focused starting point, and it pairs with the standard twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6, 8-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5.
- SR5: This is the best-value trim, adding more everyday comfort and tech, and the SR5 test truck can be equipped with the TRD Rally Package, which brings 18-inch TRD off-road wheels, all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks, skid plates, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and Downhill Assist Control.
- Platinum: This trim adds available features such as a head-up display, wireless phone charging, load-leveling rear height-control air suspension, power running boards, and a tow tech package with a wireless trailer camera system.
- Capstone: The luxury-oriented top trim rounds out the lineup with the most upscale equipment and presentation.
- TRD Pro: This off-road-focused trim adds the most rugged hardware in the lineup, including off-road suspension and Bilstein shocks.
What Toyota Tundra do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tundra years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,119 | 34.4% |
| 2023 | 4,812 | 34.4% |
| 2025 | 4,263 | 33.9% |
| 2022 | 3,266 | 33.7% |
| 2026 | 2,088 | 33.3% |
| 2021 | 1,923 | 32.7% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price, mileage, and configuration. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often when looking for a newer Tundra with broad availability.
What is the Toyota Tundra's resale value?

| 2018 | $31,253 | +0.37% |
| 2014 | $22,549 | +1.62% |

Overall, the pattern points to a market where newer used examples are easing while older trucks remain relatively steady.
The 2015, 2018, and 2021 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2014, 2018, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.9% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.4%.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Standard equipment on the 2025 Toyota Tundra is a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine, dubbed i-Force, that delivers 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque in most models (348 hp and 405 lb-ft in SR models), and the best fuel economy you can get is an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in combined driving.

- Starting price: You can get a Double Cab RWD Tundra with a 6.5-foot bed starting at $42,035.

Customers say
The Toyota Tundra has consistently impressed owners over the years with its powerful engines, spacious interiors, and reputation for reliability. Drivers appreciate the smooth ride and capability of this truck, especially for towing and hauling. Many highlight its durability and strong performance across various conditions. However, some common complaints include less-than-ideal fuel economy and outdated technology compared to competitors. The Tundra's build quality and comfort remain strong selling points, but higher prices and certain features being lacking have caused some hesitation among buyers.

Very good off road package. Color looked much better in photo then on site. Auto seat adjustment for the driver but not the front passenger.

So far I am enjoying the vehicle! It runs very well. Gas is high though. It has a better life expectancy/trust worthiness than similar vehicles, which means it is a better value

Toyota Tundra test drive
overall
The 2025 Toyota Tundra blends tech, style, and capability seamlessly.
As the third-generation Toyota Tundra enters its third model year, it adds some new tech features (including an available massaging seat in upper trims) and a retro TRD Rally Package inspired by Toyota Racing Development’s motorsports exploits. Though the mustachioed front-end design was polarizing at launch, it’s starting to grow on us, and we love the tech-forward interior and available hybrid powertrain.
Verdict: The 2025 Toyota Tundra puts a fresh face on the full-size pickup truck segment and is full of interesting and useful technology. However, it does fall short of some competitors with lower max tow ratings and the lack of front recovery hooks. For those worried about reliability and recalls, know that Toyota has fixed the engine issue that plagued 2022 to 2024 models.
