Customer summary
The Toyota Sienna has been highly regarded over the years for its reliability, spaciousness, and family-friendly features. Owners frequently praise its comfort, excellent fuel efficiency, and cargo space, making it an ideal choice for families. Many appreciate the hybrid models for their impressive gas mileage, with some reporting up to 45 mpg on long drives. However, there are common concerns regarding the lack of power compared to previous models, engine noise, and some interior materials that could feel cheap. Additionally, technology features have been criticized for not keeping pace with competitors, affecting some users' driving experience.

The Toyota Sienna's current nationwide average price is $29,671, and its lowest point over the past year was $26,708. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Sienna is a strong choice if you want a family-focused minivan with broad appeal and consistently high owner satisfaction. The all-generations owner rating is 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the Sienna for its spacious cabin, comfort, and fuel efficiency, along with the practical cargo flexibility that makes it easy to use for family duty. The strongest recurring themes are everyday usability, a comfortable ride, and the kind of roominess that works well for passengers and gear alike.
Expert reviews rate the 2022 and 2015 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs across recent expert-reviewed years center on driving feel, interior materials, and safety ratings. Some versions are described as boring to drive, with cheap-feeling cabin materials and safety scores that trail the strongest rivals.
35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Sienna models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Toyota Sienna for comfort, spaciousness, and family-friendly practicality, and the expert reviews reinforce its reputation for efficiency and everyday usefulness. Across the model years in the data, it comes across as a minivan that many shoppers trust for long-term family use.
- Owners rate the Toyota Sienna between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to individual vehicle history and maintenance than to the model’s overall reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Sienna?
Across all model years, at 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 94.1% |
| 2025 | 92.6% |
| 2024 | 90% |
| 2023 | 85.8% |
| 2022 | 80.8% |
| 2021 | 74.8% |
| 2020 | 69% |
| 2019 | 59.8% |
| 2018 | 54.6% |
| 2017 | 53.2% |
| 2016 | 53.9% |
| 2015 | 53.9% |
| 2014 | 52.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, plus blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking on the Woodland Edition and other higher trim levels.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch digital driver display and 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, an AWD Sienna should get 35 mpg combined.
Which Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2026 Toyota Sienna offers these trims:
- LE: The entry trim gives you the standard hybrid setup and the core Sienna family-hauler formula at the lowest price point.
- XLE: A step up for shoppers who want more comfort and convenience while staying focused on value.
- XSE: The sportier-looking choice for buyers who want a more expressive appearance.
- Limited: The upscale trim for shoppers who want a more premium-feeling Sienna.
- Woodland Edition: Adds a subtle suspension lift, standard e-AWD, roof rails, a tow hitch, and a 1,500-watt inverter; it suits buyers who want extra winter traction and light-duty outdoor versatility.
- Platinum: The top luxury-oriented trim, adding the most premium equipment, including the onboard vacuum and FridgeBox refrigerated box.
What Toyota Sienna do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Sienna years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2,486 | 40.3% |
| 2024 | 2,431 | 41.4% |
| 2023 | 1,771 | 38.5% |
| 2026 | 1,735 | 41.9% |
| 2022 | 1,536 | 38.8% |
| 2016 | 1,396 | 32.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of availability, newer features, and enough inventory to compare prices and trims. They also line up with the years that many shoppers are already targeting for a balance of value and modern equipment.
What is the Toyota Sienna's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $26,217 | −9.12% |
| 2025 | $46,342 | −7.69% |
| 2022 | $36,583 | −5.84% |
| 2021 | $34,413 | −4.27% |
| 2016 | $17,204 | −4.08% |
| 2024 | $44,305 | −2.67% |
| 2017 | $19,378 | −2.49% |
| 2018 | $21,682 | −2.32% |
| 2019 | $24,688 | −2.29% |
| 2023 | $41,497 | −2.26% |
| 2014 | $13,001 | −2.1% |
| 2015 | $15,623 | +0.62% |
Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want prices that have softened. The declines are strongest on some of the newer and mid-cycle years, while one older year is essentially flat and another is slightly up.
The 2015 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2015, 2014, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota Sienna now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.69% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −2.67%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 40.3% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 41.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $46,342. The Toyota Sienna offers a roomy, family-friendly cabin that makes it easy to carry passengers and cargo with confidence.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: All Siennas are hybrids, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and an electric motor, and an AWD Sienna should get 35 mpg combined.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch digital driver display and 12.3-inch touchscreen are standard on most trim levels, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

We looked at some platinum and XLE models. While platinum has built-in fridge and built in vacuum but it's also more pricey. While XLE doesn't have ottoman and second row entertainment unit. This model fits perfectly for my family's needs

Toyota Sienna test drive
overall
Minivans like the 2026 Toyota Sienna are great family vehicles.
With power sliding side doors, three rows of comfortable seats, and plenty of expandable cargo room, the 2026 Sienna checks off the minivan must-haves—even though its maximum cargo room pales in comparison to other minivans. It offers standard hybrid power, too, accompanied by best-in-class fuel economy, and there's even an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that adds extra traction in the winter.
Verdict: The 2026 Toyota Sienna’s safety ratings are a concern, but rivals don’t offer significantly better overall performance in this area. So, if shoppers want a fuel-efficient minivan equipped with AWD, here it is.
