Customer summary
The Toyota Sequoia has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, primarily for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong performance, especially in towing. Drivers frequently highlight its comfortable ride and ample cargo space as standout features, making it a great choice for families and road trips. However, a common criticism is its fuel economy, which many consider to be below expectations, especially for a full-size SUV. Additionally, some owners have expressed disappointment regarding outdated interior designs and the limited tech features in earlier models. Despite these drawbacks, the Sequoia remains a solid option for those prioritizing space and dependability.

That gives you a useful snapshot of where this model sits today, with pricing varying a lot by model year and condition. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Sequoia a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Sequoia earns strong marks from owners across the lineup, and the all-generations owner rating is 4.63/5 across every model year in the data. Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, reliability, strong towing ability, comfortable ride, and family-friendly usefulness. The main trade-offs that come up again and again are fuel economy, older interior design, and limited tech in earlier years.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The honest trade-offs are the Sequoia’s poor fuel economy, cramped third row in newer models, and limited cargo space in some years.
30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Sequoia models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Sequoia as a durable, dependable SUV with strong long-term appeal, and the expert commentary reinforces that reputation with repeated praise for proven hardware and rugged construction. Across the lineup, you also see recurring approval for its towing strength, roomy layout, and straightforward family-hauling character.
- Owners rate the Toyota Sequoia between 3.75 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to age, mileage, and maintenance history than to the model’s core reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Sequoia?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 98.1% |
| 2025 | 96.1% |
| 2024 | 94% |
| 2023 | 92.1% |
| 2022 | 86.4% |
| 2021 | 69.5% |
| 2020 | 62.6% |
| 2019 | 63.5% |
| 2018 | 62.7% |
| 2017 | 61.5% |
| 2016 | 57.9% |
| 2015 | 55.2% |
| 2014 | 57.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Which Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Sequoia offers...
- SR5: The entry point to the lineup, giving you the Sequoia’s core full-size SUV capability at the lowest price in the 2025 range.
- Limited: A step up for shoppers who want more equipment while staying focused on value.
- Platinum: Adds a more upscale feel and serves as the foundation for the 1794 Edition.
- 1794 Edition: Brings machined-finish 20-inch wheels, more exterior chrome, Saddle Tan leather upholstery, open pore American walnut wood trim, and all-weather floor mats; this is the best-value pick if you want the most distinctive cabin presentation.
- TRD Pro: The off-road-focused trim in the lineup.
- Capstone: The top-end trim for buyers who want the most premium presentation.
What Toyota Sequoia do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Sequoia years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,253 | 34.6% |
| 2025 | 1,245 | 33.8% |
| 2023 | 843 | 34.5% |
| 2026 | 751 | 32.1% |
| 2022 | 411 | 32.4% |
| 2018 | 244 | 37.7% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also tend to attract shoppers looking for newer features and broader availability.
What is the Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $67,171 | −8.2% |
| 2023 | $62,064 | −7.94% |
| 2025 | $71,880 | −7.55% |
| 2016 | $24,449 | −6.83% |
| 2015 | $20,845 | −4.49% |
| 2014 | $20,439 | −3.08% |
| 2018 | $34,710 | −1.26% |
| 2019 | $37,851 | −1.02% |
| 2020 | $45,029 | −0.1% |
| 2021 | $48,810 | +0.82% |
Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more room to negotiate. The newer models show some of the largest drops, while a few older years are much flatter. That mix suggests you can find meaningful value across the lineup, especially if you focus on recent model years.
The 2020 and 2021 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2021, 2020, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Toyota Sequoia safe?
- 2024: 10/10
- 2023: 10/10
- 2022: 7/10
Every 2025 Sequoia has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5), a collection of driving assistance features.
For the safest used buy, the 2023 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Toyota Sequoia now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.55% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.2%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $67,171. The Toyota Sequoia offers a roomy, truck-based full-size SUV character that suits families who want towing strength and a rugged feel.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Sequoia uses an i-Force Max hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, a 1.87-kilowatt-hour nickel metal hydride battery pack, and a 10-speed automatic transmission, plus 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.
- Tech: The latest model includes a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system.
- Safety: The latest model adds Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Starting price: Prices range from $62,425 to $83,915, plus the destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

I think this car is a good value. I think the gas mileage really isn't any better than my 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro V8 that I traded in for the Sequoia. However the features of the 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro cannot be beat. I don't think Toyota missed a detail on this beauty. The vehicle has the smoothest ride of any vehicle I have ever been in. This SUV turns on a dime. I would compare it closest to the GMC Yukon Denali, except the Sequoia is cooler not just for it's rugged exterior but the red camo leather interior that is a perfect compliment to the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro unique character and customer base.

Ok, so I wrote a long review, but it didnt go through. Pros - exterior is best in its class. Interior - best in class if you like a rugged look and exclude Escalade (saw a 2021 and it killed the Sequoia, but was $30,000 more). Technology and touch screen have improved significantly. Seats 7 comfortably, but not good on rear storage space if seating 7. Power is actually amongst best in its class. Towing is really good even though I have not used it. Although storage space behind 3rd row is bad, it actually fits in the garage. My street has large full size SUVs (Suburban, Tahoe and Navigators) and they all sit in the driveway. Im sorry, but if you are shelling out that much money for the vehicle and cant have it in the garage, that is not good. Cons - Rear storage area is likely worst in class of large full sized SUVS. The batteries and live rear axle make it so the seats dont go all the way down and you cant really take the seats out from what I can see..... Gas mileage is below what is advertised (only 200 miles in and have done mostly city), but Im getting 17.6. Although this is better than most if not all in its class, I was hoping to average at least 20. Overall - If you can afford it and want a vehicle that stands out and has a presence on the road, and you can trust it to be reliable, this is the vehicle for you. If you dont have an extra $25,000, to shell out for how awesome this vehicle is, get a Grand Highlander as you get most of the pros of this vehicle at a lower price point. However, a Grand Highlander is not this and will never be this, but does many of the same things (except towing) with better gas mileage. With that said, I still buy this 10/10 times as I could never see myself driving a Grand Highlander as a single dad.

This thing is a beast. Good power. Quiet ride. Roomy. Sharp

There’s a new reason to consider a 2025 Toyota Sequoia, and it goes by the name 1794 Edition.
The 2025 Sequoia is Toyota’s full-size SUV, based on the same platform as the Tundra pickup truck and using the same i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. It seats up to eight people, holds up to 86.9 cubic feet of cargo, carries up to 1,730 pounds of payload, and tows up to 9,520 pounds of trailer. The new Sequoia 1794 Edition slots into the lineup as a Texas-themed luxury model, and it certainly is nice. But it cannot mask this SUV’s fundamental flaws.
Verdict: People buy full-size SUVs to carry lots of people, haul lots of cargo, and tow lots of weight. However, due to its packaging requirements, the Sequoia is a rock star only if you’re attaching a trailer to it, and even then, it’s not class-leading in capability.
