What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Land Cruiser?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2027 | 99.5% |
| 2026 | 97.9% |
| 2025 | 96.7% |
| 2024 | 96.2% |
| 2021 | 90% |
| 2020 | 82% |
| 2019 | 69.6% |
| 2018 | 58% |
| 2017 | 46.8% |
| 2016 | 47.6% |
| 2015 | 52.9% |
| 2014 | 55.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2020 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcyclist detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, a road sign reader, automatic high-beam headlights, and Predictive Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: Toyota Audio Multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus dual 12.3-inch displays.
Which Toyota Land Cruiser trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser offers...
- 1958: This is the value-focused trim, with a retro look, round headlights, cloth seats, basic equipment, and one of three paint colors. It’s the best-value choice if you want the Land Cruiser experience at the lowest entry price.
- Land Cruiser: This trim adds a more modern, upscale look, more color choices, a nicer interior with larger screens, and critical off-roading hardware and software. It’s the trim to choose if you want the strongest blend of capability, comfort, and equipment.
What Toyota Land Cruiser do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Land Cruiser years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2026.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,175 | 33.3% |
| 2024 | 993 | 34.3% |
| 2026 | 765 | 31.2% |
| 2027 | 205 | 25.9% |
| 2020 | 50 | 18% |
| 2018 | 50 | 24% |
Higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price and condition. They also usually make it easier to shop for the trim and equipment mix you want.
What is the Toyota Land Cruiser's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $61,369 | −4.57% |
| 2025 | $62,683 | +0.0% |
The table shows a mixed but generally stable pricing picture, with one recent model year moving down and the other staying flat. That creates a useful opening for used buyers who want a newer Land Cruiser without chasing a sharply rising price. The 2025 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year. The 2025 and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Toyota Land Cruiser safe?
- 2025: 7/10
- 2024: 7/10
- 2020: 7/10
Every 2025 Land Cruiser includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
For the safest used buy, the 2020, 2024 and 2025 models all post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Toyota Land Cruiser now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −4.57% versus a year ago.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 34.3% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $62,683. The Toyota Land Cruiser offers a spacious cabin and a comfortable, confident character that suits both daily driving and weekend use.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Every Land Cruiser has Toyota’s i-Force Max hybrid system. It pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor, and the official EPA ratings say a Land Cruiser will get 23 mpg combined.
- Tech: The Toyota Audio Multimedia system is well equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Drive Connect installs a cloud-based navigation system and a conversational digital assistant.
- Safety: Every 2025 Land Cruiser includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Predictive Driving Assist.
- Starting price: With pricing starting around $60,000, the Land Cruiser opens at a premium level.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

The Land Cruiser lives up to all of my expectations, the interior was very comfortable, the instrumentation and obvious technology was impressive ; most impressive was the performance. The handling was comparable to Our Lexus RX450hL.

Very smooth ride. Gas mileage not horrible but not the 25mi as listed. I get about 21 on hwy if I “take it easy” on the gas pedal. I love the look. I put 20in wheels with large 285 tires. Looks Great!

The Land Cruiser is back! The cult-classic off-roader makes its return to the United States market after a three-year absence, which may have felt a lot longer to fans following its progress in other parts of the world. CarGurus attended the unveiling at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What’s New for the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser is built on the same TNGA-F platform that underpins the Toyota Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra, but it’s an all-new model for 2024. Notable updates from when this vehicle was last sold stateside include new adventure-ready features and a new base trim (with matching price point), named "1958" after the year the model first came to the country. The middle trim is known simply as "Land Cruiser," and the top trim is "First Edition," limited to 5,000 units in North America.
Design
Like many other recently revived SUVs, the new Land Cruiser wears the blocky look that’s become synonymous with ruggedness, but it does so with panache, referencing its ancestry in much of its detailing. While many automakers reserve heritage styling cues for top-dollar trims, Toyota leaned in starting with the base Land Cruiser 1958, giving its LED headlights the classic round shape and endowing it with the all-caps “TOYOTA” heritage grille as well. The mid-range Land Cruiser (full stop) gets rectangular headlights, but the top First Edition trim’s are also round. LED fog lamps are also standard, and color-selectable starting with that middle trim.
All 2024 Land Cruisers come with 18-inch alloy wheels, though buyers have the option to upgrade to 20-inch wheels on the middle trim if they prefer. First Edition Land Cruisers get additional off-road-oriented gear like a roof rack, a front skid plate, and mudflaps as well.
Powertrain
At least for now, the Land Cruiser lineup comes with a single hybrid powertrain offering in the United States, meaning that even though fuel-economy estimates are not yet available from the EPA, we can expect significant improvement over the 2021 model. The turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine works with a 1.87-kWh battery pack and a 48-hp electric motor to produce 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Every 2024 Land Cruiser has an eight-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive (4WD) is standard, naturally. The electronically controlled two-speed transfer case provides high and low range, and the Multi-Terrain Select system on board the mid-tier and First Edition models can now operate in either.
Middle- and top-trim Land Cruisers come with a push-button disconnect for the front sway bar, a feature that’s new to the model and traditionally commands a premium (it’s only available on the Rubicon version of the Jeep Wrangler). The full Land Cruiser lineup will come with a center-locking differential, automatic limited-slip diff, and electronic locking rear differential, and all will have Toyota’s CRAWL Control feature.
Interior
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser comes standard with heated seats and a heated steering wheel. The base 1958 trim gets cloth seating surfaces. The middle trim comes with SofTex seats, and the First Edition has real leather, as well as trim-specific design features including “First Edition” logos. Buyers can add heated and ventilated leather seats and a moonroof to either the Land Cruiser or the Land Cruiser First Edition via the available Premium Package.
Technology
An 8-inch touchscreen display is standard on the 2024 Land Cruiser, but both higher grades come with a 12.3-inch display. All will have a wireless charging pad and the latest version of Toyota’s infotainment system, which also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 6-speaker sound system is standard for the Land Cruiser 1958. The top two trims come with a 10-speaker sound system or, with the addition of the Premium Package, a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system. Further Premium Package content includes a head-up display and a digital rearview mirror.
Safety
All 2024 Land Cruisers come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the newest iteration of the automaker’s driver-assistance technology suite. The package now includes full-speed adaptive cruise control with a fourth setting for following distance. Among other enhancements and additions are Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, and lane-tracing assist with an emergency driving stop system.
Pricing
Detailed pricing for the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has not yet been announced, but we do know that it is set to start at around $55,000. Given that the 2021 Land Cruiser’s starting price was more than $87,000, this is huge news. Toyota will support customization for the Land Cruiser as well: The automaker is making more than 100 accessories available through its Genuine Accessories and Associated Accessory Products program right off the bat, with more to come, meaning that buyers will be able to finance their modifications right along with the vehicle itself.
