great driving dynamics, great bang for buck. would be better if there was more 3rd row space. comparable to hyundai santa fe, ford explorer and toyota highlander.

Just bought a 2024 Mazda CX-90 Preferred. So far I love the looks, the interior, and the Turbo Inline 6. It is a blast to drive. It is powerful, responsive, the cabin is quiet, and it feels great to drive! There is a lack of storage space. The center console is very shallow and the glove compartment is a little small as well. It has less legroom and cargo space than others that I test drove in the same class (Telluride, Pilot). I actually liked the Telluride interior a little better but the CX-90 is more fun to drive and is a better value over all.

Great for freeway, longer hauls, and road trips. Smartly designed quiet cockpit with well placed interface knobs to control all CarPlay and other features. Smart cruise control has some quirks in turns if theres a vehicle in front of you in the parallel lane. It slows you down as if it thinks the other vehicle is in your lane instead of passing it properly. Heard a software update is coming for that. Smart cruise doesnt send hand on wheel but rather you have to steer a little for it to know your hands are present on the wheel. Higher end vehicles sense your hand on the wheel without having to actually turn the wheel slightly. By far the biggest pain point is the low tailgate opening height. If you are over 6-feet tall, you will hit your head on this low hanging gate. Many, many, times. Even if you think you will learn to duck, you will still hit your head. After a year, its become a deal breaker. Unfortunate because there is no engineering reason that it could not be designed to swing up a few inches higher to allow taller drivers access to the back without having duck under the tailgate. Perhaps Japanese designers did not properly consider the height of many American men who are 62 and above in height. Also to note, when using the on board fitment feature to set seat and steering wheel heights, the telescoping steering wheel does not project outward enough for tall drivers. With long legs, you want the seat far back, but the steering wheel does not come out that far, so youre reaching for the wheel, which isnt comfortable. Blanket statement, this is not a vehicle for tall people over 6-feet.. That said, this vehicle is a great driver, quiet and comfortable, with a strong spirited engine. Good design overall. Plus my driving averaged 24mpg which is excellent for the size. Not the most rugged looking vehicle. Not sure it would be the best choice for say outdoor adventures or camping considering the more lux interior. Its refined, understated, and sort of blends in the crowd a bit, which can be a good thing.

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 offers these trims:

  • Select: The entry trim brings the 10.25-inch infotainment display, Amazon Alexa compatibility, text-messaging support, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it the best-value starting point if you want the core CX-90 experience.
  • Preferred: This trim sits above Select in the 3.3 Turbo lineup and is part of the more affordable powertrain range, making it a sensible step up if you want to move deeper into the lineup.
  • Premium Sport: This trim adds active blind-spot monitors, lane-keep assist, head-on traffic avoidance steering assist, Cruising & Traffic Support, and post-collision braking, so it suits buyers who want a richer safety and convenience package.

  • Premium Plus: At the top of the 3.3 Turbo S range, this trim layers in the most upscale equipment and the strongest powertrain in the lineup.
  • Preferred: In the PHEV lineup, this trim gives you the plug-in hybrid powertrain in the most accessible form.
  • Premium Sport: This PHEV trim adds more equipment while keeping the plug-in hybrid setup.
  • Premium Plus: This is the most upscale PHEV trim and the best fit if you want the plug-in hybrid with the fullest feature set.

The larger drop on the newer model year shows that recent CX-90s have become notably more affordable over the past year. The 2024 and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mazda CX-90 safe?

  • 2026: 8/10

Should I buy a used Mazda CX-90 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

  • Price trend: The 2025 model is at −19.2% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.04%.
  • Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.3%.
  • Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $34,287. The Mazda CX-90 offers a premium-feeling cabin and engaging handling that make it stand out in the three-row SUV class.

Consider waiting if:

  • Powertrain/efficiency: In the CX-90 3.3 Turbo, the inline six makes 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque running on regular gas. Upgrade to the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S, and regular gas produces 319 hp and 369 lb-ft. Run that version on premium fuel, and the horsepower figure jumps to 340.
  • Tech: A 10.25-inch infotainment display, Amazon Alexa compatibility, text-messaging support, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the base Select trim level. Other trim levels feature a larger 12.3-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
  • Safety: Premium Sport and higher trim levels also have active blind-spot monitors, lane-keep assist, and head-on traffic avoidance steering assist.
  • Starting price: The 3.3 Turbo model range is the most affordable, with Select, Preferred, Premium Sport, and Premium Plus trims ranging from $39,300 to $50,270.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
