Customer summary
Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking on the Sport S trim, with blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist becoming standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
- Fuel efficiency: a Wrangler with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient, with an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers these trims:
- Sport: the entry point, with the Wrangler’s core open-air, trail-ready character and the broadest starting point for shoppers who want the model’s basic formula.
- Sport S: adds adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, making it the best-value trim for buyers who want more everyday convenience and safety equipment.
- Willys: adds a more distinctive appearance and a stronger adventure-focused personality.
- Sahara: a four-door-only trim that adds a more upscale, comfort-oriented take on the Wrangler.
- Rubicon: adds serious off-road hardware and is the trim to choose if trail capability is your priority.
- Rubicon X: adds the most advanced safety equipment in the lineup, including blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
- Willys ’41: a four-door-only special edition with unique army-green styling, matching painted wheels, and a ’41 hood graphic.
- 85th Anniversary Edition: a four-door-only special edition.
- Willys 392: a four-door-only special edition.
- Moab 392: a four-door-only special edition.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,944 | 32.7% |
| 2022 | 8,793 | 33.1% |
| 2019 | 8,231 | 32% |
| 2020 | 8,201 | 32% |
| 2018 | 7,943 | 31.9% |
| 2017 | 7,785 | 31.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a strong mix of availability, pricing, and familiar Wrangler features. More listings also give you more room to compare trims, colors, and condition.
What is the Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $35,624 | −16.21% |
| 2020 | $24,798 | −13.08% |
| 2021 | $27,120 | −12.95% |
| 2024 | $36,329 | −12.9% |
| 2019 | $23,422 | −12.51% |
| 2022 | $29,553 | −11.16% |
| 2018 | $20,921 | −10.65% |
| 2017 | $18,728 | −9.02% |
| 2016 | $17,152 | −7.97% |
| 2014 | $15,269 | −7.75% |
| 2015 | $16,203 | −7.5% |
| 2023 | $34,712 | −6.61% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room to find value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while the older ones show smaller declines. That pattern suggests recent Wranglers have softened more quickly than earlier examples.
The 2023, 2015, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- Sweet-spot year: The 2021 model has the most listings at a current average price of $27,120. The Jeep Wrangler offers iconic styling and a highly customizable, open-air driving experience that few SUVs can match.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler has a powertrain for everyone, offering the stalwart Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, a more efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, and a powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and the four-cylinder returns an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, backed by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the Trails Offroad app is included with a two-year free trial.
- Safety: Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Starting price: The base two-door Sport model was priced at $34,227 without options.
If you're buying used today, the 2021 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Reviewed a 2025 Jeep Wrangler on Apr 10, 2025
As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

I like the features, I think the car is a great value. The only thing I wish it had was auto start but other than that I love it!

Jeep Wrangler test drive
overall
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler is a capable off-roader that does a fair job as a daily driver.
There are no significant updates for the 2026 Jeep Wrangler, but it does add an enhanced hinge system that makes the doors easier to remove plus some limited-edition exterior colors. As one of the original rough-and-tumble off-roaders, the Wrangler maintains an aura of adventure with a minimalist, rugged interior with analog gauges. The Wrangler shines in an off-road environment but has just enough tech and comfort to double as a commuter car.
Verdict: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler is full of compromises. It has unquestionable prowess in the dirt and projects fun-loving confidence, but in a city or suburban environment, drivers will have to deal with a noisy cabin and poor fuel economy.
