How much does the Jeep Cherokee cost in today's market?

Used Jeep Cherokee prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Jeep Cherokee's current nationwide average price is $15,070, and its lowest point over the past year was $15,021. Recently, prices have come down for the 2021 and 2022 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Jeep Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the Jeep Cherokee earns strong marks from owners across the lineup. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, spacious interiors, and useful features, along with the Cherokee’s rugged character and everyday versatility. Many also highlight its value and the sense of capability that comes through in both city driving and weekend use.

Expert reviews rate the 2016 and 2014 models among the highest across all years.

The main tradeoffs in recent expert-tested years center on complicated vehicle settings, limited cargo space, and steering that can feel less polished than the rest of the package.

33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Jeep Cherokee models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently point to the Cherokee’s comfort, capability, and useful feature set as major strengths. Across the lineup, you also see repeated praise for its ride quality, spaciousness, and durable, adventure-ready character.

• Owners rate the Jeep Cherokee between 3.9 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully on older examples, especially if you want a well-kept vehicle with a clean history and a strong maintenance record.

What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Cherokee?

Across all model years, at 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and Active Driving Assist.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: 37 mpg combined (39 mpg city, 35 mpg highway).

Which Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee offers these trims:

• Base: The base model starts the lineup with standard all-wheel drive, the 12.3-inch touchscreen, the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard driver-assistance features. It’s the best-value choice if you want the Cherokee’s core hybrid setup and everyday equipment.
• Laredo: The Laredo adds more equipment while keeping the same hybrid powertrain and standard AWD, making it a smart step up if you want a little more content without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Limited: The Limited adds wireless device charging and leatherette seats, giving you a more upscale cabin and extra convenience.
• Overland: The Overland sits at the top of the range with 20-inch wheels, traffic-sign recognition, and the most premium presentation in the lineup.

What Jeep Cherokee do most buyers choose?

The Jeep Cherokee years with the most listings are 2020, 2019, and 2018.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of pricing, availability, and feature content. More listings also make it easier to compare condition, mileage, and equipment before you buy.

What is the Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

Most model years in this set are moving lower year over year, which creates better buying opportunities for used shoppers. The declines are especially pronounced in several recent years, while one newer model is essentially flat. That mix suggests you can find meaningful value in the Cherokee lineup without giving up access to newer features.

The 2023 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2023, 2015, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Jeep Cherokee safe?

• 2026: 7/10
• 2021: 7/10
• 2016: 6/10
• 2014: 8/10

Jeep offers similar standard driver-assistance features to other mainstream brands, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.

For the safest used buy, the 2014 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.

Should I buy a used Jeep Cherokee now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2022 model is at −10.57% versus a year ago, and the 2021 model is at −10.4%.
• Deal availability: The 2021 model has 33.9% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $16,232. The Jeep Cherokee offers a comfortable ride, useful space, and a strong sense of everyday versatility.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The new Cherokee’s specs don’t seem very Jeep-like at first. The only powertrain available at launch consists of a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine connected to a two-motor hybrid system with a planetary gearset taking the place of a conventional transmission, similar to what Subaru and Toyota use. It’s good for 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque, splitting the difference between the Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4 hybrids in horsepower.
• Tech: The 2026 Cherokee comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, still running the same Uconnect 5 infotainment system as the outgoing Cherokee from the 2023 model year. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard, along with a pair of USB-C ports for both the front and rear rows on all but the base model.
• Safety: Jeep offers similar standard driver-assistance features to other mainstream brands, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Active Driving Assist, which pairs automated lane centering with adaptive cruise control for highway driving, is also standard.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $36,995 for the base model.

If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
