The Honda Civic's current nationwide average price is $19,120, and its nationwide average price reached a low of $17,558 over the past year.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the Honda Civic is a strong used-car pick if you want a compact car with broad appeal and a long-running reputation for practicality and driving enjoyment. The all-generations owner rating is 4.47/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Civic for reliability, fuel economy, and an enjoyable driving experience. Comfort, roomy interiors, and useful cargo space also come up often, especially for shoppers who want an easy daily driver.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2020 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs across recent expert-reviewed years are that some trims reserve the best equipment higher in the lineup, the technology can feel dated in some versions, and road noise can be noticeable at speed.
31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Civic models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Civic as dependable, efficient, and enjoyable to live with. Expert reviews also reinforce its reputation for strong value, long-term usefulness, and a driving experience that stays appealing across model years.
- Owners rate the Honda Civic between 4.5 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking maintenance history and model-year-specific condition carefully, especially on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Civic?
Across all model years, at 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 88.3% |
| 2025 | 86.9% |
| 2024 | 84.7% |
| 2023 | 81% |
| 2022 | 73.3% |
| 2021 | 61.5% |
| 2020 | 55.6% |
| 2019 | 52.8% |
| 2018 | 48.8% |
| 2017 | 46.6% |
| 2016 | 46% |
| 2015 | 47.5% |
| 2014 | 47.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2023 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing on the 2026 Civic; blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on the Civic Sport, with front and rear parking sensors plus low-speed automatic braking on the Sport Touring Hybrid.
- Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays with Google built-in, Alexa built-in, Wi-Fi hotspot access, and wireless smartphone charging on the Civic Si and Sport Touring Hybrid.
- Fuel efficiency: 31 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg in combined driving.
Which Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2026 Honda Civic offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, a CVT with paddle shifters, and front-wheel drive; it suits you if you want the simplest Civic setup.
- Sport: This adds the same core powertrain with a more upscale look and feel, plus blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert; it is the best-value trim for many shoppers.
- Sport Hybrid: This brings Honda’s Two Motor Hybrid powertrain for stronger performance and impressive efficiency.
- Sport Touring Hybrid: This adds larger 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, Wi-Fi hotspot access, wireless smartphone charging, and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.
- Si: This standalone sport sedan uses a non-hybrid turbocharged gas engine and a manual transmission only for drivers who want a more enthusiast-focused setup.
- Type R: This performance-tuned hatchback variant sits at the top of the lineup.
What Honda Civic do most buyers choose?
The Honda Civic years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,425 | 33.6% |
| 2025 | 4,867 | 33.5% |
| 2023 | 4,674 | 32.6% |
| 2019 | 2,929 | 30.1% |
| 2022 | 2,856 | 32.4% |
| 2017 | 2,728 | 29.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine broad availability with newer features and strong value. More listings also give you more room to compare condition, equipment, and pricing before you buy.
What is the Honda Civic's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $18,724 | −5.88% |
| 2019 | $17,366 | −5.1% |
| 2025 | $25,591 | −3.74% |
| 2022 | $22,518 | −3.46% |
| 2021 | $19,474 | −3.08% |
| 2018 | $16,288 | −2.63% |
| 2016 | $13,924 | −2.07% |
| 2017 | $15,467 | −1.17% |
| 2024 | $25,307 | −0.99% |
| 2023 | $24,287 | −0.84% |
| 2014 | $11,214 | −0.01% |
| 2015 | $12,240 | +2.23% |
Most model years in this set are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used. A few years are nearly flat or slightly higher, so the Civic’s pricing picture is mixed rather than uniformly falling.
The 2014, 2023, and 2024 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2015, 2014, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Consider waiting if:

Honda Civic test drive
overall

The Honda Civic is a familiar sight, but it’s well worth a second look.
It’s been almost half a decade since Honda introduced this latest Civic. That’s hard to believe, because this car has aged with remarkable grace. After a mild update for the 2025 model year, the 2026 Civic lineup carries over unchanged. It continues to offer sedans and hatchbacks, with or without hybrid power. Sporty Si and performance-tuned Type R variants are also available, but Honda still doesn’t offer the Civic with all-wheel drive. Does that matter? Seemingly not, because the Civic is Honda’s second-best-selling car (behind the CR-V), and one of the top-selling compact cars in America.
Verdict: You’ll pay a premium to buy a Honda Civic. In many ways, it’s worth the extra money. In others, not so much. Still, while there are better deals in the compact car class, few are as satisfying to drive, and that’s true even when the Civic is equipped with its base engine.
