Love this car I’m actually considered buying another one. I love all the features. I think the only thing I could probably use is Wif a hotspot Wi-Fi connected to your Genesis yearly subscription rather than have to go to another place like Verizon to keep it open.

Overview
Despite a giant price increase, the all-new 2021 Genesis G80 still represents incredible value when compared with the luxury midsize competition. In fact, that would’ve been true had Genesis done nothing but increase the price, but in this redesign year, you’re getting a whole lot more G80 for your money. More power. More tech. More features. And perhaps most importantly, a whole lot less weight.
The view from the front of the 2021 Genesis G80 should be very familiar. This larger grille and quad headlight design debuted with the G90 and the GV80, and it looks a treat here. The interior is much the same, following the lead of the G90/GV80 with an understated, classic design rife with upscale trim pieces and ambient lighting. This isn’t the typical German approach to improvement—evolution rather than revolution—and the difference here is noticeable and welcome. Infotainment is handled via a base 8-inch or upgraded 14.5-inch screen that boasts the new Genesis UI that debuted with the G90 last year, featuring navigation as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard equipment.
This new design presents a more aggressive rear profile with a sharply-raked rear roofline, but Genesis fiddled with the rear seat height to actually provide more headroom than last year’s G80. Many people will harp on the fact that the base V6 has been replaced with a turbocharged, 2.5-liter inline-4, but look to the numbers for the real story. With 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, it bests the base engine in the BMW and Mercedes offerings by 50 hp or more. What’s more, with the G80, even the base trim starts with 18-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone auto climate controls, LEDs all around, and smart key tech that allows you to enter, start, and even park your G80 with just the fob.
Safety tech gets a big upgrade this year as well, with the usual blind-spot monitoring and avoidance, auto emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist, but look to more interesting features in the higher trims like automatic lane change (dubbed “Highway Driving Assist II by Genesis) or an adaptive cruise system that is actually adaptive, learning your driving characteristics over time and adjusting to suit.
For me, the big change is with the weight savings. I loved the old G80 when I tested it, but it did feel a little portly. With 19% aluminum construction and a new platform that’s shared with the GV80, the G80 is up to 243 pounds lighter, depending on configuration, and has a lower center of gravity that should help to keep things composed in the curves. Couple this with the G80’s innovative adaptive suspension, which utilizes the front camera to anticipate needed adjustments via the road ahead, and the 2021 G80 should represent a massive improvement in the ride department.
This shared platform is also behind the new engine lineup, which sees the option of a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 for those who care to motivate with a bit more haste. 375 hp and 391 lb-ft should definitely get the job done, and again outperforms nearly all the competitor options. Even better, no matter how you configure your G80, it can be had with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
While the standard G80 has an impressive list of features, the Advanced trim ups the value ante by adding ventilation to the heated front leatherette seats, bumps the dual-zone climate control system up to three-zone, gets you a 21-speaker stereo, upgrades interior trim and—my personal favorite—adds a panoramic roof. Want wireless charging, real leather, and some of the advanced safety features I mentioned? The Prestige trim is the car for you.
We’re still waiting on all the details for the 2021 Genesis G80, but everything we’ve seen so far lets us know that the name of the game is still “disruption.” Even with a price increase of more than $5,000, the G80 still undercuts the competition by a lot, while offering more. That alone should put it on your list of cars to test in the mid-size luxury segment.
