The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is a capable and stylish full-size pickup truck. It is offered in a wide variety of trims, ranging from rugged to luxurious.

What’s New for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

For 2024, there are only a couple of new items to report. Power-retractable side-steps and active exhaust are now available, and the diesel engine becomes standard equipment in the AT4X trim.

Design

The Sierra 1500 features a big, imposing grille, flanked by LED headlights. Trims for the Sierra are Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and the range-topping Denali Ultimate. The Elevation trim boasts 20-inch alloy wheels, and moving up to the AT4 adds jet-black exterior accents, red tow hooks, and a composite truck bed. The Denali features bright exterior accents and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. 22-inch wheels are available.

Powertrain

The base engine in the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The truck is available with a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 or a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine. There’s also a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six-cylinder engine, which makes 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

The four-cylinder engine routes power through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all other engines route power through a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the rear wheels or available four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD).

When properly equipped, the GMC Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds. To get this capacity, you’ll need to select the Double Cab RWD with the turbodiesel engine and Max Trailering Package.

The turbodiesel engine is also the most efficient available on the Sierra. It returns fuel economy of 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined with RWD. The gas 5.3-liter V8 with RWD returns 16 mpg city, 21 highway, and 18 combined. The 6.2-liter V8 returns 15 mpg, 19 highway, and 16 combined.

Interior

The Pro trim features an interior design shared with older model years for the Sierra. All other trims feature a large dash bezel and a modern, functional aesthetic. The Pro trim comes with cloth upholstery, while leather upholstery is available, as are heated and ventilated seats, power-adjustable front seats, and a sunroof.

Technology

The standard infotainment setup for the 2024 Sierra 1500 is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most upgraded trims receive the larger 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Other available tech features include wireless device charging and a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo system.

Safety

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning. Available driver-assistance features include a 360-degree parking monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a head-up display. It’s also available with Chevy’s Safety Alert Seat and GM’s Super-Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system.

Pricing

At the time of this writing, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 has a base MSRP of $37,700. That’s for an entry-level Pro trim. The SLE starts at $49,100, the Elevation starts at $50,800, and the SLT starts at $54,800. The AT4 trim starts at $66,100, the Denali starts at $66,600, the AT4X starts at $79,200, and the range-topping Denali Ultimate starts at $82,500.
