The Ford F-150 is famously America’s most popular truck. One can hardly mention the iconic pickup without citing that fact, but after nearly half a century holding the title, it’s earned the distinction. And Ford is taking no chances: The fan favorite gets plenty to keep it competitive for 2024. ## What’s New for the 2024 Ford F-150 Ford has refreshed the F-150 for the 2024 model year, and that means lots of news. The truck gets new looks, a new standard engine, a new advanced tailgate option, newly standard features, and a new pricing structure–the direction of which may not be what you’d expect. ## Design The F-150’s grille has been redesigned, with the Ford badge now anchored by a pair of horizontal bars for the Lariat trim rather than encircled. XL and XTS grilles have a honeycomb effect, which Ford calls “a dual grain strategy,” meant to hold up well even when rocks and dirt are kicked up. While the standard LED headlights follow a similar shape to the previous year’s, they are now executed in a two-piece design. Ford has added further appearance packages to the F-150 lineup, pushing its customizability to greater heights, and has made the Black Appearance Package newly available for STX through Lariat trims. ## Powertrain The 2024 Ford F-150 comes standard with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which was offered as an optional upgrade on the base F-150 XL for 2023. This brings the model’s baseline power output up to 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Available engine options include a larger 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, or the hybrid 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6. The 2024 F-150 Raptor comes with a high-output 3.5-liter V6, while the Raptor R comes with a supercharged V8. The 2024 F-150 can tow up to 13,500 pounds when properly equipped, and it can manage a payload of up to 2,455 pounds. Ford says both of those statistics top the class. ## Interior News for the 2024 F-150’s interior revolves primarily around its updated color and materials options. XLT and Lariat trims are now offered with seats in an earthy-yet-sophisticated brown (the color is called “Medium Dark Smoked Truffle”) which looks distinctly premium in the photos Ford shared. The mid-range King Ranch trim now comes with bi-metallic accents inside and out, pairing “Sinister Bronze” with chrome for the exterior and “Bronzed Copper” with brass for the interior. A new Platinum Plus trim replaces Limited as the top-end option in 2024, and it comes with a new Smoked Truffle interior accented by Bronzed Copper. ## Technology Ford’s SYNC 4 software is newly standard across the F-150 lineup for 2024–it did not come with the base XL model in 2023. All 2024 F-150s get a 12-inch touch-capacitive infotainment screen as well as a 12-inch driver-information display. With the new F-150, Ford introduces its new Stolen Vehicle Services (SVS) offering. If an owner opts in, SVS will use the truck’s location data to hep track, locate, and recover it if stolen. The system will also use the FordPass app to alert owners to any break-in attempts. Any 2024 F-150 with the PowerBoost engine will come equipped with the 2.4-kW version of the Pro Power Onboard feature. This lets the truck generate electric power for use with power tools, tailgating gear, and more. A 2.0-kW version of Pro Power Onboard is available with all gas-powered F-150s for 2024, and a class-leading 7.2-kW version is available with the PowerBoost engine. ## Safety The new F-150 comes standard with 10 driver-assistance features, which include lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking. The latest version of Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system is now available on every trim: BlueCruise 1.2 adds hands-free lane-change assist and in-lane repositioning. Also newly available across the lineup is a 360-degree camera, and 2024 sees the introduction of an available head-up display, an F-150 first. The 2023 F-150 SuperCrew did well in testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), though it missed out on a Top Safety Pick award from the former. ## Pricing The 2024 Ford F-150 is set to start at $35,570. Interestingly, Ford has expressly removed the premium pricing of the hybrid powertrain. It was previously available starting with the Lariat trim and came at a premium more than double that of the optional 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine (for 2023, Ford charged $1,540 to upgrade an F-150 Lariat from the 2.7-liter V6 to the 3.5, and $3,300 to upgrade to the hybrid version). Now, Ford is offering the hybrid setup starting with the XLT trim, and at the same cost as the non-hybrid V6, meaning shoppers need no longer weigh cost against efficiency when choosing between the two. Ford says they expect to double production of hybrid F-150s for 2024 vs 2023.
