Customer summary
The Ford Expedition has been well-received across its model years, with owners consistently praising its spaciousness, comfort, and powerful performance. Many appreciate its family-friendly features, towing capabilities, and advanced technology. However, fuel economy remains a common concern, as many drivers find the gas mileage to be less than ideal. Additionally, some owners have noted that the price can be steep compared to competitors. Despite these drawbacks, the Expedition stands out for its reliability and overall value, making it a solid choice for families and those needing extra room.

| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2027 | 97% |
| 2026 | 95.4% |

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist.
- Infotainment: A 13.2-inch touchscreen with built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store, plus wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay projection.
- Fuel efficiency: 16 mpg city, 24 highway, and 18 in combined driving; 15/22/18 for 4WD models.
Which Ford Expedition trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Expedition offers these trims:
- Active: The entry trim comes with ActiveX synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the 24-inch panoramic driver information display, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want a well-equipped starting point.
- Platinum: This trim adds a more upscale feel and makes the high-output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 available.
- Tremor: This off-road-focused trim adds the high-output engine, 4WD, 10.6 inches of ground clearance, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear axle.
- King Ranch: This trim brings Del Rio leather seating and other premium materials for shoppers who want the most upscale cabin character.
What Ford Expedition do most buyers choose?
The Ford Expedition years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,550 | 32.1% |
| 2025 | 4,624 | 32% |
| 2023 | 3,943 | 32.5% |
| 2020 | 3,358 | 32.5% |
| 2021 | 3,330 | 33.1% |
| 2022 | 3,324 | 33.1% |

What is the Ford Expedition's resale value?

| 2015 | $11,683 | −3.81% |

That pattern gives you a wider range of entry points depending on how much you want to spend.
The 2016, 2015, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Ford Expedition now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −17.46% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −5.99%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 32.1% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 32.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $46,617. The Ford Expedition offers a roomy cabin and a strong family-hauling character that make it easy to live with.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Every 2025 Ford Expedition comes with a twin-turbocharged “EcoBoost” 3.5-liter V6 engine. The standard engine churns out 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, but the new Tremor trim comes standard with a high-output version of this engine, boosting it to 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: The 24-inch driver information display includes a Google Maps projection, and the 13.2-inch touchscreen features built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store.
- Safety: BlueCruise 1.4 is available, with the hardware equipped on the Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch trim levels.
- Starting price: $63,995 for an Expedition Active.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

4.6 Overall rating
Customers say
The Ford Expedition has been well-received across its model years, with owners consistently praising its spaciousness, comfort, and powerful performance. Many appreciate its family-friendly features, towing capabilities, and advanced technology. However, fuel economy remains a common concern, as many drivers find the gas mileage to be less than ideal. Additionally, some owners have noted that the price can be steep compared to competitors. Despite these drawbacks, the Expedition stands out for its reliability and overall value, making it a solid choice for families and those needing extra room.

I compared this to the Tahoe, Navigator and Sequoia. I chose the Expedition for the rugged ability to tow, 4x4, and yet luxury of great suspension and decent gas mileage for size. The new 2025 dash is amazing. The 2026 packages are changing so I needed to purchase in 2025 to get all the stealth options , retractable running boards and avoid the increase in pricing.

Overview
Ford dropped the massive Excursion in 2006, but the smaller-yet-still-huge Expedition has continued on as the automaker’s full-size family SUV. The three-row body-on-frame utility vehicle shares much of its underlying engineering with the Ford F-150, though it’s more spacious and luxurious inside than its pickup truck counterpart.
What’s New for the 2024 Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition received no major changes in 2023, but there are a few for 2024, including new tow hooks with the HD Trailer Tow package, USB-C ports for second-row passengers, and a new green paint option.
Design
The Expedition borrows some styling elements from the F-150, including its front end, which features a large grille flanked by standard LED headlights and daytime running lights. Ford offers a few wheel designs for the SUV, and the styling of its side profile features long, straight lines and a clean look without badges or graphics. The SUV’s backside is just as tastefully done, with the Expedition name spelled out and an optional hands-free power lift gate. It also features a blacked-out D-pillar, which gives the roof a floating look in the rear of the vehicle.
Powertrain
The Expedition’s main competitors offer a few powertrain choices, but Ford kept things simple for its own full-size family hauler. A twin-turbocharged V6 comes standard, making 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD). Some configurations get a more powerful version of the engine that produces 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, which improves acceleration to just over five seconds for a zero-60-mph run. Towing reaches 9,300 pounds for the standard Expedition and 9,000 pounds for the Expedition Max.
Interior
The three-row Expedition offers a cavernous interior with comfortable accommodations in most regards. A bench seat comes standard for the second row, but higher trims get captain’s chairs, which cut seating capacity by one but increase space for the two remaining second-row seats. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but synthetic and genuine leathers are available. Top trims add massaging for the first row, and some get upscale touches like quilted stitching and contrasting colors.
Technology
The 2024 Expedition comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and more. A massive 15.5-inch touchscreen is available, and both displays run Ford’s excellent Sync 4 infotainment software. It’s one of the most intuitive, responsive systems on the market, and it runs flawlessly on the large displays.
Safety
Ford offers several advanced driver aids in the 2024 Expedition, but almost none of them come standard. The SUV gets automatic emergency braking and forward-collision alerts by default, but buyers have to upgrade from the base trim to get other features, which include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, and more.
Pricing
Pricing for the 2024 Ford Expedition starts at $55,425 and extends to $83,695 before taxes, destination, and options. Ford also charges a $1,895 destination fee and a $645 acquisition fee.
