| 2016 | 64.4% |

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist
- Infotainment: a 13.2-inch touchscreen display with built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store
- Fuel efficiency: 16 mpg city, 24 highway, and 18 in combined driving; 15/22/18
Which Ford Expedition trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Expedition offers these trims:
- Active: This is the entry point and brings tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the 24-inch panoramic driver information display, making it the best-value trim for shoppers who want the core new-generation experience.
- Platinum: This trim adds the available high-output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, giving you more power while keeping the Expedition’s upscale character.
- Tremor: This is the off-road-focused choice, with the high-output engine, 4WD, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic locking rear axle, and increased ground clearance.
- King Ranch: This trim adds Del Rio leather seating and richer materials for shoppers who want the most upscale cabin feel.
What Ford Expedition do most buyers choose?
The Ford Expedition years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,631 | 30.3% |
| 2025 | 4,713 | 30.3% |
| 2023 | 3,913 | 29.1% |
| 2022 | 3,274 | 29.5% |
| 2021 | 3,272 | 29.4% |
| 2020 | 3,272 | 29.6% |
Higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also tend to attract shoppers who want newer features while still staying within a used-car budget.
What is the Ford Expedition's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $60,388 | −21.53% |
| 2024 | $46,838 | −17.6% |
| 2022 | $40,389 | −15.55% |
| 2021 | $31,638 | −14.82% |
| 2020 | $26,681 | −14.23% |
| 2019 | $23,838 | −11.16% |
| 2018 | $20,178 | −10.66% |
| 2014 | $10,385 | −6.1% |
| 2017 | $14,410 | −5.31% |
| 2015 | $11,569 | −5.28% |
| 2023 | $47,026 | −5.2% |
| 2016 | $13,504 | −1.45% |
Most model years in the Expedition lineup are down year over year, and several recent years show especially sharp double-digit drops. That pattern can work in your favor if you want a newer full-size SUV and prefer to let the first owner absorb the steepest part of the price decline. A few older years are changing more slowly, which can make them feel steadier in the used market.
The 2016, 2023, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Ford Expedition now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −21.53% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −17.6%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 30.3% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 30.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $46,838. The Ford Expedition offers a spacious, family-friendly cabin with strong long-distance comfort and a big-SUV sense of capability.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Every 2025 Ford Expedition comes with a twin-turbocharged “EcoBoost” 3.5-liter V6 engine. The standard engine churns out 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, but the new Tremor trim comes standard with a high-output version of this engine, boosting it to 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: The 24-inch driver information display includes a Google Maps projection, and the 13.2-inch touchscreen features built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store.
- Safety: BlueCruise 1.4 is available, with the hardware equipped on the Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch trim levels.
- Starting price: $63,995
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

The Ford Expedition has been well-received across its model years, with owners consistently praising its spaciousness, comfort, and powerful performance. Many appreciate its family-friendly features, towing capabilities, and advanced technology. However, fuel economy remains a common concern, as many drivers find the gas mileage to be less than ideal. Additionally, some owners have noted that the price can be steep compared to competitors. Despite these drawbacks, the Expedition stands out for its reliability and overall value, making it a solid choice for families and those needing extra room.

I compared this to the Tahoe, Navigator and Sequoia. I chose the Expedition for the rugged ability to tow, 4x4, and yet luxury of great suspension and decent gas mileage for size. The new 2025 dash is amazing. The 2026 packages are changing so I needed to purchase in 2025 to get all the stealth options , retractable running boards and avoid the increase in pricing.

Ford Expedition test drive
overall

Now in its fifth generation, the 2025 Ford Expedition upgrades its tech and adds an off-road-focused Tremor trim level.
The Ford Expedition isn’t for everyone, but for shoppers who need a combination of interior space and powerful towing capability, it’s one of only a few quality options on the current market. All-new for the 2025 model year, the Expedition retains subdued styling on the outside, but its tech-forward interior looks impressively futuristic. The addition of the new-for-2025 Ford Expedition Tremor means that the Expedition is now prepared to travel further off-road than any before.
Verdict: The Tremor is undeniably cool, and for such a large vehicle, the Expedition is surprisingly easy to drive in everyday circumstances. With a starting price just shy of $64,000 (or nearly $67K for a Ford Expedition MAX), there’s no disputing that Ford’s selling an expensive vehicle. However, both the Expedition and Expedition MAX offer a ton of standard equipment, and given their capability, both are priced in line with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban.
