The Chevy Blazer is a midsize crossover with two rows of seating, and though the name is meant to evoke nostalgia, it’s a far cry from retro Blazers. It competes with crossovers like the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, the Ford Edge, and the Hyundai Santa Fe.

What’s New for the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer

Chevy’s Blazer has been around in one form or another for the better part of the last several decades. The current iteration was introduced for the 2019 model year and shifted from a traditional truck-based SUV platform to a car platform to better compete with more efficient, popular crossovers. Last year, the Blazer got refreshed styling and an updated infotainment system. This year, the only notable change is that heated front seats now come standard. The trim lineup of 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier models carries over unchanged, with the choice of front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) available across the full model range.

Design

The Blazer is a car-based midsize crossover with rugged, SUV-like styling that nods to its past. However, unlike what Ford did with the Bronco, Chevy doesn’t go the retro route. There’s no excessive boxiness or cute throwback themes to be found here. The 2024 Blazer fits right in with the rest of Chevy’s lineup. Look to the RS trim for a sporty black textured grille and more interesting wheel options, or to the Premier for upscale brightwork to dress up the front end.

Powertrain

The Blazer’s powertrains carry over unchanged. The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated for 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. All but the base 2LT trim can be upgraded with a 3.6-liter V6 rated for 308 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. This V6 comes standard on the Blazer RS. A nine-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties across the lineup, and all come standard with FWD but can be optioned with AWD. Unlike most rivals, it’s not a full-time AWD system, but one that must be manually selected by a switch in the center console.

Interior

The Blazer seats five passengers across two rows, with newly standard heated seats for the driver and front passenger. The rear row offers decent legroom but comes up a bit short on headroom. Seats are reasonably supportive and comfortable. The Blazer’s cargo space is below average for the segment, coming in at 30.5 cubic feet beneath the lift gate and a total of 64.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.

Technology

The 2024 Chevy Blazer comes standard with a 10.2-inch touchscreen that controls an intuitive infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The 2LT and 3LT trims get a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, while the RS and Premier models get an 8-inch display. The two upper trims also get navigation, a Bose audio system, and wireless device charging, the latter of which is available on the LT models as an option.

Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2024 Blazer a five-star overall safety rating, and though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t yet published test results for the 2024 model, the identical 2023 model earned the highest “Good” rating in all six categories.

Standard safety features include a reversing camera, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, a following-distance indicator, and automatic high beams. Options include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, a 360-degree camera system, a rear camera mirror, a Safety Alert vibrating driver seat, and Chevrolet’s Teen Driver system.

Pricing

The 2024 Blazer is available now. As of this writing, pricing is as follows for FWD models: 2LT at $36,796 MSRP, 3LT at $40,695 MSRP, RS at $44,915 MSRP, and Premier at $44,195 MSRP. (Yes, you read that right, RS and Premier have the same starting price, but there are some intricacies there; the RS starts with the V6, and the Premier starts with the turbo-four.) All four trims are available with AWD, but the cost for that upgrade varies based on configuration, so budget an extra $2,500 or so.
