The BMW X7 originally launched in 2018 and is BMW’s flagship SUV. It competes with the Audi Q7, the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The X7 is a front-engined SUV, and all trim levels feature standard all-wheel drive (AWD).

The 2022 BMW X7 xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine that makes 375 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 X7 M50i is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-line 2022 Alpina XB7’s engine has the same displacement and configuration, but it’s tuned to produce 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Regardless of the engine, all 2022 X7 models use an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, which provides super-fast gear changes. There’s also a Sprint function, accessed by holding the left-hand shift paddle, which allows the transmission to shift to the lowest possible gear range and moves powertrain and suspension settings to their sportiest mode.

For 2022, the X7’s standard features list changes slightly: The M50i gets powered side window shades in place of its old manual ones, wireless charging is no longer included, and enhanced Bluetooth has been added. Sparkling Brown Metallic and Dravit Gray Metallic join the list of color options.

Several packages and some of their contents have been revised for the 2022 model year as well. The Premium Package no longer includes the Harman Kardon sound system. The Executive Package also loses the Harman Kardon sound system but gets the aforementioned power rear window shades rather than manual ones. The Dynamic Handling Package is no longer available for the X7 xDrive40i, and neither is Integral Active Steering. Glass controls are now offered as a standalone option.

The 2022 BMW X7 is available in 13 colors: Alpine White, Carbon Black Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic, Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Skyscraper Grey Metallic, and Sparkling Brown Metallic are all offered free of charge. Dravit Gray Metallic, Tanzanite Blue II Metallic, and Ametrin Metallic are all available for an additional fee of $1,950, while Frozen Pure Grey Metallic comes with a $5,000 upcharge.

Option packages for the base xDrive40i include Premium and Executive. The former adds soft-close doors and electric rear window shades, while the latter adds the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, heated and cooled cupholders, soft close doors, electric rear window shades, glass controls, and massaging front seats.

Optional upgrades for the M50i include the Executive package, as well as the Driving Assistance Professional Package, the M Sport Professional Package, and the Climate Comfort Package.

The 2022 BMW X7 is on sale now. The xDrive40i trim starts at $74,900, the M50i trim at $99,800, and the Alpina XB7 at $141,300.
