The BMW 7 Series is one of the longest-running executive luxury sedans on the market, and it remains a top choice for well-heeled buyers looking for a premium chauffeured experience. It’s available in a range of configurations, including the all-electric i7, and buyers have a dazzling number of customization and upgrade options for each.

What’s New for the 2024 BMW 7 Series

BMW updated its iDrive infotainment system for 2024, giving it a more responsive interface and speedier loading times. A new plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive model also joined the lineup, along with an all-wheel-drive 740i variant.

Design

The 7 Series has become more aerodynamic and aggressively styled over the years, but it’s still the large, imposing sedan seen in executives’ parking lots for decades. BMW’s latest updates brought its large, controversial grille design, but the rest of the car is remarkably staid and flies under the radar. The car comes standard with 20-inch wheels measuring 9 inches wide in the front and 10.5 inches in the back.

Powertrain

The “entry-level” 740i and 740i xDrive come with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six making 375 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Stepping up to the 750e xDrive brings the same engine paired with an electric motor making a combined 483 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping gas model is the 760i xDrive, which gets a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 producing a whopping 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Moving over to the electric i7, the car offers between 449 hp and 650 hp depending on the configuration, and the driving range reaches 321 in the most efficient configuration.

Interior

Opulent finishes and plenty of room highlight the new 7 Series’ cabin. The five-seater comes standard with synthetic leather and 18-way power-adjustable front seats. All cars also get heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel, while higher configurations add ventilated and massaging front seats. Other available features include genuine leather, heated door panels, and a serious rear seat upgrade that brings ventilation, massaging, and reclining.

Technology

A 14.9-inch touchscreen running the latest iDrive interface comes standard, and BMW equips a 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are on board, and the car comes standard with wireless charging, SiriusXM radio, voice controls, and an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system.

Safety

BMW equips a range of standard safety tech, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warnings, traffic-sign recognition, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, and more. A surround-view camera system, a partially automated highway driving assistance system, and parking assistance tech are available.

Pricing

As of this writing, the 740i sedan starts at $96,400 before destination. The 760i starts at $121,300, and the i7 at $105,700. All cars see a $795 destination fee tacked on at the bottom line.
