33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW 7 Series models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently praise the BMW 7 Series for its luxurious feel, strong performance, and advanced technology. Across the model years, the car also earns repeat praise for its smooth ride and spacious cabin, which help reinforce its flagship character.
- Owners rate the BMW 7 Series between 1.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership can be costly, so a careful inspection and a strong service history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW 7 Series?
Across all model years, at 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.2% |
| 2025 | 94% |
| 2024 | 90.4% |
| 2023 | 84.7% |
| 2022 | 81.7% |
| 2021 | 72.6% |
| 2020 | 69.2% |
| 2019 | 61.8% |
| 2018 | 60.3% |
| 2017 | 57.2% |
| 2016 | 61.1% |
| 2015 | 61% |
| 2014 | 61.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: BMW now offers forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: BMW’s curved-screen iDrive 8.5 setup pairs a 12.3-inch driver’s screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment display, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the 750e at 65 MPGe (electric) and 25 mpg (gas) combined, and the 740i and 760i are also quite efficient, delivering 28 mpg (or 27 with AWD) and 20 mpg combined, respectively.
Which BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?
The 2024 BMW 7 Series offers these trims:
- 740i: The entry-level choice uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic, making it the best-value trim for shoppers who want the core 7 Series experience.
- 740i xDrive: This version adds BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive and is called out as the best value within the lineup.
- 750e xDrive: This plug-in hybrid adds 483 hp, 516 lb-ft of torque, and electric driving capability, but it also asks more from you in daily use.
- 760i: The V8-powered top trim adds 536 hp, standard AWD, and the most vigorous driving experience, along with luxury options such as two-tone paint or Cashmere wool interior.
What BMW 7 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 7 Series years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 739 | 37.9% |
| 2022 | 678 | 36.3% |
| 2024 | 628 | 37.1% |
| 2025 | 618 | 35.3% |
| 2019 | 552 | 35.9% |
| 2021 | 541 | 37% |
These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also give you a better chance of finding the right combination of features and deal quality.
What is the BMW 7 Series's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $80,231 | −20.75% |
| 2024 | $67,282 | −15.88% |
| 2022 | $41,887 | −14.78% |
| 2023 | $60,949 | −14.55% |
| 2015 | $13,355 | −11.78% |
| 2019 | $23,779 | −10.92% |
| 2017 | $19,200 | −10.59% |
| 2018 | $22,353 | −9.9% |
| 2020 | $31,389 | −9.69% |
| 2021 | $37,661 | −9.42% |
| 2014 | $12,590 | −9.05% |
| 2016 | $17,692 | −8.36% |
Most model years are down sharply year over year, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while older examples still show meaningful declines that can help keep asking prices in check.
The 2016, 2014, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Unfortunately, the front end re-style is not as attractive as the prior car (2020-2022) and the dash layout looks like a Mercedes. Think Ill be keeping my 2020 750i which is a fantastic car. One of the best Ive ever owned. As a frame of reference Ive had Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Ferrari and more. The 750i is the most serene ride ever.

It is a beautiful car with great feature s and amazing technology. The ride was great minus the little road noise but the great audio system take care of that. Its 4 out of 5 car aesthetically, and with its options and functions.

BMW 7 Series test drive
overall

The 7 Series is luxurious, fast, and efficient, but its complex systems and quirky styling aren't for everyone.
Redesigned for 2023, the 7 Series is BMW's full-size flagship sedan, arch-rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and newcomers like the Genesis G90. For 2024, BMW has added the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 750e and lightly updated the infotainment system. Unfortunately, these additions don't change the 7 Series calculus. The 750e offers a boost in power and efficiency over the low-end 740i, but it costs more, has a disjointed driving personality, and quickly eats its electric charge. Despite the update, the car's digital systems remain frustratingly complex.
Verdict: The 2024 BMW 7 Series has lots to offer luxury buyers, including features like a rear-seat theatre and cashmere upholstery, plus performance and fuel efficiency that are often superior to most rivals, few of whom offer PHEV options. But the car's frustrating digital systems and controls undermine the experience.
