About Us

Smart Motors first opened its doors in 1908 when O.D. sold his first car, an Apperson Jackrabbit out of his father's livery & grain business in Waukesha, WI while attending Carroll College. He continued to successfully sell cars until, in 1912, O.D. moved Smart Motors to Madison (617 University Avenue), before being involved in a horrific car accident for which he was not expected to survive. Against all odds he pulled through and completed his Mechanical Engineering degree at UW-Madison. Two short years later, the dealership was relocated to 601 University Avenue. In 1929, the Great Depression hit the nation hard, and every car dealership in Madison declared bankruptcy except one...Smart Motors Toyota

The dealer listed a 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro as new with 2 miles but after reaching out, the salesperson said it is a demo car with 8,000 miles.

Ray in sales was outstanding. He was super helpful with all my questions. He was in my area in Minnesota and offered to give me a ride. So I rode with him from Minnesota to Wisconsin to get my truck instead of me having to take a plane. Very nice and generous person. Id recommend Lee in sales as well. I did my own financing but he was very helpful and answered all my questions. Overall a great experience!

We love Smart Motors!! Very easy to talk to and let you look and make decisions! If they don’t know something they find out!! My daughter feels very comfortable going by herself and was treated with the same respect I have been!! Highly recommend!!

They have 3k markups on their cars. Wouldn't trust them, when I reached out to them they said 3k markups on any car if I was out of state due to the shortage. I don't over pay for cars and neither should you. Not only are there markups but allocation only means you'll be waiting forever to get the car and pay more.

Excellent, The 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5 CrewMax 4.6L 4WD was not available but they had another 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5 CrewMax 5.7L 4WD that I bought. The process easy and no pressure for upsells.

I traveled from Florida to purchase a truck. Samantha Bowen is the salesperson I dealt with. She worked hard to make everything right about the transaction. Patient with my questions. Prompt and accurate with the answers. Everything was ready when I arrived for pick-up. She also followed up a week after the sale to make sure I was satisfied with everything. I look forward to the next opportunity to trade with Smart Motors.

Very prompt response with good information. I did visit the dealership and spoke with a helpful salesperson, but I did not buy a car there. One thing to understand is that there is usually a person who takes care of internet correspondence but he/she is not on the floor. They are just a facilitator.
