Yes — the Volvo XC60 is a strong choice if you want a premium compact crossover with a high owner rating and a long-running reputation for safety, comfort, and upscale design. The all-generations owner rating is 4.69/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the XC60 for its luxurious interior, comfortable ride, and stylish design. They also value its safety features and advanced technology, which help make it feel polished and easy to live with.
Expert reviews rate the 2018 and 2023 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in recent expert reviews are jerky acceleration and braking, tight rear-seat legroom, and pricing that can climb quickly on well-equipped versions.
35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Volvo XC60 models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently highlight the XC60’s comfort, safety, and refined driving experience. The model also earns praise for its upscale cabin, smooth ride, and strong everyday usability.
- Owners rate the Volvo XC60 between 3.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most worth watching on older, higher-mileage examples where electronics and engine-related concerns have come up in owner feedback.
What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC60?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 97.7% |
| 2025 | 95.3% |
| 2024 | 92.3% |
| 2023 | 91.5% |

| 2021 | 84.1% |
| 2020 | 80.2% |
| 2019 | 76.3% |
| 2018 | 73.6% |
| 2017 | 68.7% |
| 2016 | 64.2% |
| 2015 | 64.5% |
| 2014 | 62.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: City Safety with steer assist, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and blind spot monitoring
- Infotainment: a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
- Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg in combined driving, but on a sunny 88-degree day, the XC60 T5 returned 24.7 mpg on our Southern California fuel-economy loop. On the extended mountainous vehicle evaluation route, we saw 21.7 mpg.
Which Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Volvo XC60 offers these trims:
- Core: The entry trim in the 2026 XC60 lineup, giving you the model’s clean Scandinavian design and core luxury feel.
- Plus: A step up for shoppers who want more equipment while staying within the mainstream of the lineup.
- Ultra: The best-value trim, since it keeps the sumptuously outfitted cabin and adds the richer luxury touches that make the XC60 feel especially calm and pampered.
- Black Edition: A distinct appearance-focused trim for buyers who want a more dramatic look.
What Volvo XC60 do most buyers choose?
The Volvo XC60 years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 2,389 | 36.4% |
| 2025 | 2,318 | 35.9% |
| 2023 | 2,293 | 36.5% |
| 2022 | 1,401 | 37.5% |
| 2026 | 1,159 | 36.9% |
| 2020 | 791 | 37.4% |
The highest-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest mix of availability, pricing, and trim choices. They also usually sit close enough to current-model features to feel modern while still offering meaningful savings versus the newest examples.
What is the Volvo XC60's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $27,378 | −17.17% |
| 2017 | $12,394 | −15.93% |
| 2014 | $8,592 | −15.55% |
| 2021 | $24,171 | −12.25% |
| 2016 | $11,018 | −11.56% |
| 2019 | $19,589 | −11.28% |
| 2023 | $33,701 | −10.05% |
| 2020 | $22,455 | −9.91% |
| 2018 | $17,713 | −9.15% |
| 2015 | $10,223 | −9.08% |
| 2024 | $38,681 | −8.15% |
| 2025 | $43,082 | −2.42% |
Most XC60 model years are down year over year, which creates better buying opportunities for used shoppers. The steepest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle examples, while the newest model years are falling more slowly. That pattern suggests you can often find stronger value in recent used XC60s without paying the newest-model premium.
The 2025, 2024, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- 2021: 9/10
- 2018: 10/10
Should I buy a used Volvo XC60 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −2.42% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.15%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35.9% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $38,681. The Volvo XC60 offers a calm, upscale cabin with a polished Scandinavian character that makes it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:

I have a base model Volvo XC60 from 2011, and its fantastic. No outstanding issues, comfortable seats, the base audio system is punchy but nothing insane. If you find one under 200k miles definitely pick one up!

Great reliable, safe vehicle, we purchased two, one for each of our first time drivers, twin granddaughters. One was recently involved in an horrific accident, and she walked away with only one small scratch. The car however was a total loss. We replaced it with the same model, we believe in it’s safety record…

Why it stands out
The 2024 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that leans heavily on Volvo’s long-running strengths: safety, clean Scandinavian design, and a well-equipped cabin. It is a five-passenger SUV with standard safety tech and luxurious amenities, and its appeal is rooted as much in its understated style as in its reputation for protection. Volvo’s own history with the XC60 also helps explain its popularity, since the model has been the brand’s best-selling vehicle.
For 2024, the XC60’s lineup included fuel-efficient four-cylinder powertrains, and the standard setup returned to all-wheel drive. The B5 used a 2.0-liter turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid inline-four, while the B6 added an electric supercharger. The plug-in hybrid remained part of the range as well. Standard equipment included a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Buyers looking for more luxury or convenience could also find features such as Nappa leather seats, a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, air suspension, massaging seats, blind spot monitoring, and lane keep assist.
The XC60’s biggest strengths are its safety ratings and standard safety features, but it is not without compromises. The source notes that some drivers may find the acceleration and braking jerky, and rear-seat legroom is tight. Even so, the 2024 Volvo XC60 remains appealing for shoppers who want a stylish, safety-focused luxury SUV with a broad mix of comfort, technology, and efficient powertrains.
