What should I look for when buying a used Toyota GR86?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 80.8% |
| 2025 | 78.2% |
| 2024 | 78.8% |
| 2023 | 77.8% |
| 2022 | 79.2% |
| 2020 | 54.3% |
| 2019 | 56.3% |
| 2018 | 52.8% |
| 2017 | 48.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota’s Active Safety Suite
- Infotainment: an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: Automatic models are EPA-rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. With the manual, those numbers fall to 20/26/22 mpg.
Which Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Toyota GR86 offers these trims:
- Core: The entry trim gives you the GR86’s core rear-wheel-drive sports-car character, standard all-season tires, and the basic sporty cabin setup. It suits you if you want the most affordable path into the lineup.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest blend of grip and everyday appeal, since it adds Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer-performance tires, black wheels, and the more upscale interior touches.
- Yuzu Edition: This special edition adds matte-black wheels with gloss-black lug nuts, Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers, yellow interior accent stitching, black interior trim, a commemorative plaque, and Yuzu yellow paint for buyers who want the most distinctive look and hardware.
What Toyota GR86 do most buyers choose?
The Toyota GR86 years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 546 | 27.7% |
| 2023 | 496 | 31.3% |
| 2025 | 358 | 27.7% |
| 2022 | 331 | 30.2% |
| 2026 | 193 | 22.8% |
| 2018 | 72 | 52.8% |
Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more inventory to compare, which can make it simpler to find the right color, trim, and price. They also often become the default choice for used buyers who want a newer example without moving all the way to the latest model year.
What is the Toyota GR86's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $17,827 | −6.65% |
| 2025 | $32,770 | −2.33% |
| 2024 | $31,165 | −0.76% |
| 2023 | $29,435 | +0.61% |
| 2022 | $27,908 | +2.17% |
Overall, the table shows a mixed pattern: some years are easing down in price, while others are edging up. That gives you a few different entry points depending on whether you want the newest model-year features or the strongest value.
The 2023 and 2024 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2022, 2023, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota GR86 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −2.33% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −0.76%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 27.7% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 27.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $31,165. The Toyota GR86 offers sharp handling and a playful rear-wheel-drive character that make it especially rewarding on winding roads.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2.4-liter flat-four engine makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and automatic models are EPA-rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.
- Tech: The GR86 includes an eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Safety: The latest model adds rear parking sensors on automatic models, while the Premium and Yuzu get blind-spot monitors.
- Starting price: The Core starts at $32,695, including a $1,295 destination fee.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
The Toyota GR86 is celebrated by owners for its fun driving experience, nimble handling, and affordability across its model years. Many drivers find it to be an enjoyable sports car that delivers strong performance and engaging handling. The stylish design and interior add to its appeal. Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota GR86 stands out as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that stays true to the classic formula. It uses a 2.4-liter boxer engine, and for 2024 Toyota extended its Active Safety Suite to manual-transmission models, adding features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, sway warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, and high-beam assist. That makes the GR86 appealing to buyers who want an engaging driving experience without giving up a meaningful set of driver-assistance features.
For 2024, Toyota also added a Performance Package with SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes, along with a new GR86 Trueno Edition with a two-tone paint job in Halo and black or Track bRed and black. The car’s strengths remain its fun-to-drive character, available manual transmission, and strong value, while its drawbacks are familiar for the segment: a cramped back seat, outdated technology, and a firm ride.
