What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?

Across all model years, at 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: EyeSight driver-assist tech on automatic-transmission models, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams; Limited models add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic-transmission Limited models.
• Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2022 Subaru BRZ are 25 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with the automatic transmission and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with the manual transmission.

Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:

• Premium: This is the entry trim, and it gives you the BRZ’s core rear-drive sports-car formula with the standard manual transmission or available automatic, plus the 8-inch touchscreen, digital gauge cluster, and the model’s balanced chassis character. It’s the best-value choice if you want the BRZ experience with the lowest starting point.
• Limited: This trim adds Ultrasuede upholstery with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and, on automatic models, reverse automatic braking. It suits you if you want the most complete mix of comfort, tech, and safety equipment.

What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?

The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because you get more inventory to compare and a better chance of finding the color, mileage, and condition you want. They also tend to be the years most shoppers cross-shop first when looking for a used BRZ.

What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?

Most of the years shown are moving slightly lower, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. One model year is essentially flat, and another is edging up a bit, so the BRZ’s pricing picture is mixed rather than uniformly falling.

The 2022 and 2023 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2022, 2023, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru BRZ safe?

• 2022: 7/10
• 2015: 7/10

The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models.

For the safest used buy, the 2015 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −6.13% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −0.42%.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: As before, the 2022 BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, which combines port and direct injection, and the new 2.4-liter BRZ engine makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.

• Starting price: Pricing for the 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at $28,955 for the base Premium trim level with the manual transmission.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
