What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist tech, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams; the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.
• Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2022 Subaru BRZ are 25 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with the automatic transmission and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with the manual transmission.

Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:

• Premium: The entry trim brings the 17-inch wheels with Michelin Primacy tires, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster; it suits you if you want the most affordable way into the BRZ.
• Limited: This trim adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic models; it is the best-value trim if you want the fullest mix of comfort, tech, and safety features.

What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?

The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more choices on price, mileage, and condition. They also usually give you a better chance of finding the trim and equipment mix you want.

What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?

Most of the years shown are moving lower, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. A couple of model years are close to flat or slightly higher, so the BRZ's pricing picture is mixed rather than uniformly falling.

The 2022 and 2023 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2015, 2022, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru BRZ safe?

• 2022: 7/10
• 2015: 7/10

The 2022 BRZ includes Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist tech on automatic-transmission models, and the Limited trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.

For the safest used buy, the 2015 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −5.76% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −0.1%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 30.9% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 30.3%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,792. The Subaru BRZ offers a balanced, rear-wheel-drive driving character that makes it especially appealing if you want a sports car that feels playful and precise.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2022 BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and can still rev to 7,000 rpm.
• Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
• Safety: The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.
• Starting price: Pricing for the 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at $28,955 for the base Premium trim level with the manual transmission.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
