Used Pontiac Montana for Sale near Hanover, PA
Pontiac Montana Overview
Pontiac already had a minivan, the Trans Sport (clever, huh?), which it had introduced in 1990. Its only successful feature was the Montana sport package, which jazzed the boring minivan image up with more SUV-type characteristics. Pontiac latched onto this and rebadged its minivan as the Montana in 1999, putting an emphasis on SUV sports performance and style rather than soccer and groceries.
Directly competing with the Venture and Silhouette, the Pontiac Montana came in regular and extended versions and had a wide array of seat configurations to improve passenger and storage flexibility. A combination of bucket, bench, and captain's chairs could be removed or folded down to accommodate up to eight people in the extended vans. Dual sliding doors were its most popular feature, and a power passenger option was available on the extended van. This later expanded to a driver's side power door as well.
Plenty of features came standard on the original Montanas, including ABS brakes, daytime running lights, cruise control, rear defogger, dual front and side airbags, and later OnStar, remote entry, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The extensive options were very popular and could be had separately (DVD system, heated seats, parking assist sensor, air compressor) or as part of various sport packages that tried to beef up the SUV image with sports suspension, rear spoiler, hood scoops, and performance tires.
Pontiac tried even more to appeal to SUV wannabes who were stuck with the practicality of a minivan by adding all-wheel drive capability briefly. Though Montana owners loved the sporty handling, good gas mileage, cargo flexibility, and peppy V6 engine, the minivan suffered from many quality issues and extensive mechanical problems with the transmission and intake manifold. Due to waning popularity, perhaps because of these issues, the Montana eventually weaned its lineup down to just the extended vans right before its demise in 2005. It would be reborn in 2006 as the Montana SV6, an obvious nod to its reinvigorated SUV styling.

The Pontiac Montana has received mixed reviews from owners across its model years. Many appreciate its comfort, spacious interior, and reliability, making it a practical choice for families. Drivers favor the smooth ride and decent fuel economy, especially on long trips. However, there are significant concerns about mechanical issues and reliability, with reports of repairs needed for various components over time. Overall, the Montana is seen as a solid family vehicle but comes with some drawbacks that may deter potential buyers.

I love the dual doors but for safety sake I am glad I have only one powered door, on the passenger side. The kids will never open the door to traffic. I have had the van for almost 4 years and the cost has been very minimal so far. I would recommend the van to anyone looking for a reliable minivan.
Dependable vehicle, this is an 8 passenger extended length van with extra storage space in the trunk. Features front and rear heat and A/C, AM/FM, Front captains chairs, tinted windows, power windows, mirrors and locks. We've had this vehicle for 4 years and haven't had any major issues with it.
My van is my work horse. It carts my kids, my sister and mother and nieces, groceries, furniture, electronics, items for work, stuff for the baby.....LOTS of stuff for the baby!! It's perfect for the drive-in; my hubby and I just take out the back seats for us to sit, lay blankets and pillows down for the kids and we are all as comfy as can be! I love how the seats just fold up for extra space instead of having to yank them right out. I have often thought of getting something that is a little better on gas and a little newer....but then I look at old Betsy there in the driveway with the hole in the rocker panel (even though I get it sprayed before our Canadian winter)....but otherwise in perfect condition......and think, "how can I get rid of her? She perfect for me right now." Perhaps when the baby gets a bit older I'll take a look at a Dodge Journey but the baby is still under a year so until then......we'll just keep on loving our Montana EXT.
I bought it because I needed a van big enough for 7, I know these vans have have intake gasket issues, but in 255000kms, the engine was never touched. Tires, and maintance was all i put into this van, aside from the fact I put 3 drivers wheel into it. If I could find another low mileage one I would buy it.
Good power, sporty looks. Good for hauling the kids. Very comfortable for long trips. Wish gas mileage were better, but it is a big van. Average price on repairs. Had the transmission rebuilt and it seemed like a fair price. Overall nice vehicle.
