I bought this car as a project, not knowing it had sat for 13 years doing nothing. New plugs and a fuel pump and filter and it was on its way. Ive had this car for almost 4 years now and have touched EVERY part of it. Ive done head gaskets, tranny filter and flush, cooling system, timing chain, cv shafts, suspension, all of it. And I will say, the 3.1 is a good motor. This cars tranny slows it down for good gas mileage and it certainly gets that. Its lightweight but if you put some wider tires on it it gets around just fine in the winter. Ive never personally gotten stuck in the montana winters. Its easy to work on for most things but parts are getting super scarce for the body's. However these engines were in everything and share lots with the 3.4 which were in EVERYTHING. My issues I have with the car stem from it sitting for so long. But even then this cars as old as I am and spent half of its life sitting and rotting and its still running as my daily driver. Its a good car but do try to take care of it. It'll return the favor.

Reviewed a 2000 Oldsmobile 4 Dr GLS Sedan on May 8, 2010

In more than 200,000 miles, I replaced normal wear parts, brakes a couple times (I was rough on brakes), and the starter. Gas mileage was about 28 hwy, sometimes better if I drove nicely. Acceleration and handling were true to Old's attempt at a sport handling aspect to their sedan. ABS saved my life more than once, and while safety ratings were high, actual safety was excellent. In appearance... is there such a thing as a passive-aggressive car? It was understated, but still looked like it could really move... and it could. The engine had a smooth satisfying sound when accelerating, and it's V6 never felt like it was over-wound or straining to keep up. Road noise in the cabin was minimal, though it did increase slightly over the 6+ years I drove it. No dash rattle, no funny noises. The transmission was extremely precise. It always felt the same, it was reliable, and I knew what to expect from it at every acceleration. I sustained a speed of 110 mph at around 2400 rpm, and only stopped accelerating because I hit the governor. I could not have asked for a finer vehicle. It stuck to the road like glue on curves and was incredibly comfortable to drive. Then after 200,000 miles, it met its end saving my life in a bad accident. A lesser car could not have maneuvered as well to avoid the center of the crash, nor would it have protected me so well from the impact it did sustain. RIP Intrigue. Oct. 20, 2007 - You'll always be missed.

Reviewed a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera on Nov 27, 2013

This 85 Cutlass was not high reliability nor few troubles, common to 85 GM. No wonder Japanese cars sales took off when we look back at "Big 3" reliability and quality from around 1973 to 1996 ??? The advent of overdrive automatics was the worst time period of all. I recall brand new Dodge minivans of 1989 not even driving themselves off the new car delivery trucks. What a nightmare. Then the first electronic fuel injected cars stunk and all their sensor troubles. Off on a fond memory tangent, my 76 land yacht ginormous Olds 88 Royale with huge 455 V8 and solid old turbo-400 transmission was one of the best cars I've ever owned. It went for 250,ooo miles, never wore out, family just got tired of driving it, never leaked anything, never used oil, always started setting outside down to 30 below zero, it only rusted out and liked gas at about 15 mpg's max, was it. Even the worst worn out, rough freeze thaw road in all of the northland couldn't be felt underneath it's seemingly 20' long wheelbase. What a sled old "Rosie" was !!

Reviewed a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 on Nov 6, 2009

The 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30 consists of a 455ci V8 rated conservatively at 390hp and 500ft/lbs of torque. I would personally get one with the factory 4 speed manual transmission. Runs 0-60 in 5.3 sec and the 1/4mi in 13.2 @ 107 mph. comes complete with A/C, AM/FM 8 track casette, vinyl interior, bucket seats, full gauges, posi-traction rear differential, rallye wheels, rallye stripes, functional ram air hood, and fiberglass rear decklid spoiler.
