How much does the Nissan LEAF cost in today's market?
Used Nissan LEAF prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $17,003 | $15,994 – $21,050 |
| 2024 | $19,218 | $16,725 – $21,361 |
| 2023 | $16,704 | $15,090 – $18,002 |
| 2022 | $14,879 | $13,329 – $15,832 |
| 2018 | $10,899 | $9,308 – $11,034 |
| 2015 | $5,894 | $5,122 – $6,136 |
The Nissan LEAF's current nationwide average price is $16,696, and its lowest point over the past year was $12,602. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the Nissan LEAF is a strong fit if you want an affordable EV with a smooth, comfortable driving experience and practical everyday usability.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.4/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the LEAF for its affordability, comfort, and easy city driving character. Across the model line, shoppers also tend to value its low running costs and usable interior space, which make it a practical choice for commuting and local errands.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in expert reviews are modest performance, a cramped back seat, and charging or range limitations on older versions.
44.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently describe the Nissan LEAF as a practical, easy-to-live-with EV with low running costs and a comfortable driving experience. Across the model line, the strongest themes are everyday usability, smooth operation, and value.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most tied to battery condition and how the car was charged over time, so a careful battery check matters most on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.3% |
| 2025 | 95.6% |
| 2024 | 94.8% |
| 2023 | 91.9% |

| 2021 | 78.9% |
| 2020 | 78.9% |
| 2019 | 82% |
| 2018 | 76.6% |
| 2017 | 76.3% |
| 2016 | 69.1% |
| 2015 | 72.8% |
| 2014 | 67.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2017 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPILOT Assist with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Range & charging: 303 miles, 75-kWh pack, 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power, and a 10%-80% charge takes 35 minutes
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, review how often the car was charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm the remaining battery warranty coverage before you buy.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers these trims:
- Leaf S: The entry trim uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 18-inch steel wheels, and the 174-horsepower, 52-kWh setup, making it the value-focused choice.
- Leaf S+: This trim adds the larger 75-kWh battery and 303-mile range, making it the best-value pick for buyers who want the longest range.
- Leaf SV+: This version adds 14.3-inch screens, Google built-in apps, rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, and the stronger 214-horsepower setup.
- Leaf Platinum+: The top trim adds the 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system with front headrest speakers, TailorFit seating, V2L power-offboarding capability, and the most upscale equipment in the lineup.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2026.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,032 | 48.6% |
| 2025 | 902 | 48.8% |
| 2026 | 695 | 47.9% |
| 2023 | 406 | 47.3% |
| 2022 | 230 | 43.5% |
| 2021 | 109 | 42.2% |
Higher-volume years usually draw more shoppers because they offer a wider selection, fresher features, and more pricing choices. That combination makes them easier to compare and more likely to surface a good match for your budget.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $17,003 | −10.3% |
| 2023 | $16,704 | −1.58% |
| 2022 | $14,879 | −0.74% |
| 2024 | $19,218 | +4.73% |
| 2015 | $5,894 | +5.38% |
| 2018 | $10,899 | +8.09% |
Most of the listed years are moving lower, which can work in your favor if you want a used LEAF at a softer price point. A few years are rising, showing that some versions still command stronger demand. Overall, the pattern points to a market where recent-model pricing is easing while older examples remain more mixed.
The 2022 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2018, 2015, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −10.3% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −1.58%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 48.8% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 47.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,218. The Nissan LEAF offers a smooth, quiet, comfortable character that makes it especially appealing for commuting and local driving.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: The latest Leaf S+ reaches 303 miles, the SV+ reaches 288 miles, the Platinum+ reaches 259 miles, and Nissan says a 10%-80% charge takes 35 minutes.
- Tech: The latest model features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google built-in apps on SV+ and Platinum+ models.
- Safety: The latest model adds standard ProPILOT Assist with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control, along with a 360-degree camera system.
- Starting price: The Leaf S+ starts at $31,485.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
Overall, drivers of the Nissan LEAF across all model years appreciate its affordability, smooth driving experience, and comfort, especially for city commuting. Many praise its low maintenance costs and decent interior space, making it a practical choice for local driving. The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.

CarGurus recommends the 2025 Nissan LEAF

Summary
With 918 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,872, 46.4% of 2025 Nissan LEAF listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
95.4% of 2025 Nissan LEAF listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2025 Nissan LEAF stands out as one of the most recognizable names in the electric-car market, and its appeal is rooted in value, comfort, and everyday usability. In the buying guide, Nissan’s Leaf is described as an excellent value for money, comfortable, and quiet inside, which helps explain why it has remained a familiar choice for shoppers looking for an affordable EV rather than a flashy one. For buyers who can charge at home and do not need long-distance capability every day, that combination of low-key practicality is a major part of the LEAF’s appeal.
What makes the 2025 Nissan LEAF distinctive is the way it sits at the end of the model’s second generation, which brought meaningful improvements over the original car. Nissan released that generation for the 2018 model year with a larger battery that could deliver up to 150 miles of range and a more powerful drivetrain rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also added e-Pedal technology, allowing drivers to rely heavily on regenerative braking for one-pedal driving, and later updates brought Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with Nissan Safety Shield 360. The same generation also offered vehicle-to-home technology through NissanConnect, letting the battery help power a home during an outage for up to two days, which gives the LEAF a practical edge that goes beyond simple commuting.
At the same time, the LEAF’s limitations are part of its story. The buying guide notes pedestrian performance, limited range on older models, and old charging tech in the first two generations, and it also points out that first- and second-generation LEAF EVs use an air-cooled battery pack that is likely to lose range as it ages. For shoppers considering a 2025 LEAF, that means the car’s strengths are best understood as affordability, comfort, and useful everyday features rather than class-leading speed or long-range capability.
