Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.
• Infotainment: Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: the new mild-hybrid systems and the G 550’s downsized engine might yield some improvements over the 2024 G-Class’ 14 mpg combined rating.

Which Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers these trims:

• G 550: the best-value trim, with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, mild-hybrid assistance, nine-speed automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive, locking front, center, and rear differentials, and standard 19-inch wheels.
• AMG G 63: adds a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, stronger acceleration, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, 20-inch wheels, and a sportier steering wheel with buttons and switches for the various settings.
• G 580 with EQ Technology: the all-electric version, with four individually controlled permanent-magnet electric motors and a distinct powertrain choice for buyers who want the electric model.

What Mercedes-Benz G-Class do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class years with the most listings are 2024, 2022, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a wider spread of prices and deal quality. That makes it easier to find a G-Class that fits your budget and equipment preferences.

What is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used. A few older years are rising, but the overall pattern still favors buyers looking for recent-model G-Class inventory. The changes are especially pronounced in several newer years, while a couple of older examples are edging upward.

The 2015 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2018, 2014, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

• 2025: 7/10
• 2021: 8/10
• 2020: 7/10
• 2019: 6/10

Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.51% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.64%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 30.9% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 33.2%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $175,408. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers a distinctive boxy design and a cabin that feels unmistakably special.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: the base G 550 trades last year’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine for a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 keeps its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which produces 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
• Tech: it features the same Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system as other vehicles wearing the three-pointed star, with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
• Safety: three new features were also added for the 2025 model year, including route-based speed adaptation for adaptive cruise control, automated lane centering, and an emergency-stop feature.
• Starting price: For reference, the 2024 G 550 and G 63 priced around $143,000 and $183,000, respectively.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
