Launched in 2003 as a replacement for the Mazda 626 and Millenia mid-size sedans, the Mazda 6 was a decidedly sporty alternative to the somewhat-bland competition. Not only were the Mazda 6 sedans, and later hatchbacks and wagons, freshened up with sleek, aggressive designs that spoke to their sporty nature, but they were also more powerful and more nimble than the cars they replaced.
Initially the four-door Mazda 6 was available in two configurations. Under the hood of the base 6i sedan was a 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, while the Mazda 6s sedan was equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 that pumped out 220 horsepower.
In 2004, hatchback and wagon versions were added to the Mazda 6 lineup. In 2005, a Grand Touring trim package made its appearance, while in 2006 a Grand Sport trim package was introduced.
By the 2007 model year, the Mazda 6 was available in four different basic styles, including the original Mazda 6 four-door Sports Sedan, as well as a 5-Door Hatchback, a Sport Wagon, and the high-performance MazdaSpeed6. The high-end MazdaSpeed6 came with a turbocharged 2.3-liter double-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine, which produced 270 horsepower.

I bought my Mazda6 used with around 55k miles on it back in 2017 and it’s still going strong in 2024. I’ve place over 110k miles on it and never had any issues with it. Just keep up with the maintenance and this car will go the distance. I do have the sport version and that’s honestly the only “downside” of the vehicle. Simple system. Nothing fancy. If you’re looking for a first time car, this would be it and you could learn the maintenance fairly quickly. I paid 13k for it and it’s probably one the greatest financial decision I’ve made.
I don’t have a single complaint about this car. It is spacious, efficient, nice-looking, has plenty of room in the trunk, and has the features I wanted. I fully recommend the 2009 Mazda 6 (or any other 2nd generation model)
This vehicle is awesome! This vehicle is low on maintenance while giving the best of fuel economy. While this vehicle is 10 years old it still has features that the luxury brands doesnt have. If your decide to purchase this vehicle, get it in (Soul Red) heads will turn!!
The Mazda line of vehicles always punch up compared to their peers. How so? Well for the price Mazda has leather upholstery, premium sound, great driving dynamics, and tech comparable to vehicles in the luxury category. This car is a Great Value for what you are getting, some new cars dont have the same level of features and are $20k higher. The only down side is that the 2021 model year was the end for the prior model of the Mazda 6, but with a new revamped version to be hitting the market soon there is hope that this stellar car will be brought back to the US.
