Are Lexus LX models reliable?

Owners consistently describe the Lexus LX as durable, dependable, and well suited to long-term ownership, while expert coverage repeatedly highlights its strong reputation for reliability and rugged capability. Across the lineup, you also see praise for its comfortable ride and upscale feel, which helps it stand out as a long-haul luxury SUV.

• Owners rate the Lexus LX between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk to watch is higher repair and running costs on older, higher-mileage examples, so a careful history check matters.

What should I look for when buying a used Lexus LX?

Across all model years, at 73.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5
• Infotainment: dual-screen infotainment system with a 12.3-inch upper touchscreen and 7-inch lower touchscreen; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: 19 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway)

Which Lexus LX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Lexus LX offers these trims:

• Lexus LX: The base trim starts at $88,245 and brings standard all-wheel drive, a comfortable ride, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a dual-screen infotainment setup, and Lexus Safety System+ 2.5; it is the best-value starting point for shoppers who want the core LX experience.
• LX Premium: This trim adds more equipment over the base model and sits next in the hierarchy at $96,345.
• LX F Sport: This trim adds sporty styling elements, a black mesh grille, model-specific 22-inch wheels, an F Sport steering wheel, shifter and sport seats, plus exclusive Ultra White exterior and Circuit Red interior colors.
• LX Luxury: This trim adds more upscale equipment and starts at $104,345.
• LX Ultra Luxury: This top trim starts at $127,345 and includes every feature from the lower trims as standard equipment.

What Lexus LX do most buyers choose?

The Lexus LX years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Higher-volume years usually give you more choices on trim, color, mileage, and price, which makes them the most common starting points for used shoppers. They also tend to be easier to compare side by side because there are more listings in the market.

What is the Lexus LX's resale value?

Both model years show lower prices than a year ago, which is good news if you’re shopping used. The declines are fairly close in size, so recent LX pricing has moved down in a similar way across these two years. That makes the recent-model-year market especially worth watching if you want a newer LX at a softer price.

The 2023 and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Lexus LX safe?

• 2022: 7/10

The 2022 Lexus LX comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, which adds forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, emergency steering assist, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning with steering assist, and Lane Tracing Assist automated lane centering.

For the safest used buy, the 2022 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Lexus LX now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −8.2% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −7.67%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 34.7% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 35.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $89,597. The Lexus LX offers a distinctive blend of rugged capability and upscale comfort that makes it appealing for buyers who want one SUV to do both.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: One of the major changes for 2022 is a switch from the previous-generation LX’s naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 to a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 shared with the Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive (4WD) with low range (F Sport models get a Torsen limited-slip differential), the V6 makes 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: In contrast, the 2022 model gets a dual-screen infotainment system, with a 12.3-inch upper touchscreen and 7-inch lower touchscreen in an unusual nested arrangement. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless phone charging, and Apple Music and Amazon Music integration are standard as well.
• Safety: The LX comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 group of driver aids, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, emergency steering assist, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning with steering assist to nudge the car back into its lane, and Lane Tracing Assist automated lane centering.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $88,245 for the base trim level.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
