Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says the GX 550 will get 17 mpg in combined city and highway driving. On our Southern California fuel economy test route, we came close to that, at 16.8 mpg. On the mountainous evaluation loop, we observed 16 mpg.
- Infotainment: The Lexus Interface infotainment system is simple to use, and Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Safety package: A long list of driver-assistance systems is standard on the 2026 Lexus GX, most bundled together in the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 (LSS+ 3.0) package.
Which Lexus GX trim should I buy?
The 2026 Lexus GX offers these trims:
- Premium: This entry trim gives you the GX’s core luxury-and-capability formula, including the standard digital driver display, touchscreen infotainment, and the model’s strong powertrain.
- Premium+: This trim adds extra comfort and convenience equipment over Premium, making it a smart step up if you want more everyday polish.
- Luxury: This trim leans further into upscale features and is a good fit if you want a more premium cabin experience.
- Luxury+: This version adds even more equipment on top of Luxury for shoppers who want the most comfort-focused setup.
- Overtrail: This is the best-value trim for buyers who want the GX’s rugged side, with rock rails, all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, crawl control, downhill assist control, and trail-ready hardware.
- Overtrail+: This trim builds on Overtrail with additional equipment for buyers who want the most trail-focused GX with extra luxury touches.
What Lexus GX do most buyers choose?
The Lexus GX years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,338 | 35.9% |
| 2023 | 1,290 | 35.8% |
| 2022 | 1,165 | 34.9% |
| 2025 | 894 | 35.1% |
| 2020 | 759 | 36.6% |
| 2021 | 742 | 36.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a strong mix of newer features and used-car pricing. They also sit close to the model’s redesign, which makes them especially appealing to shoppers who want modern GX styling and equipment.
What is the Lexus GX's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2022 | $47,814 | −4.22% |
| 2017 | $26,526 | −3.94% |
| 2023 | $55,525 | −3.47% |
| 2016 | $24,130 | −3.02% |
| 2018 | $29,195 | −2.79% |

| 2021 | $42,018 | −1.53% |
| 2014 | $21,274 | −0.75% |
Most GX model years are down year over year, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. The newer models show the largest declines, while older examples are changing more gradually. That creates a broad spread of opportunities across the lineup, especially if you’re flexible on model year.
The 2014 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2014, 2021, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Customers say
The Lexus GX is a well-loved luxury SUV known for its impressive off-road capabilities, robust construction, and luxurious interior. Most owners appreciate its comfort and reliability, especially on long drives. The V8 engine is favored for its power, providing a smooth and confident drive. However, many drivers express concern about its fuel economy and find the technology outdated compared to newer competitors. Overall, the GX stands out for its rugged yet refined feel, making it a top choice for families and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Reviewed a 2010 Lexus GX on Oct 22, 2025
The 2010 Lexus GX is generally a great SUV with a V8 engine shared with the Lexus LS460. Although it looks like a rugged heavy duty SUV, the weight of it tends to cause it to wear down its components like the suspension and engine. Trouble issues tend to be oil leaks from numerous places like the valve covers and cam towers. Additional issues include the dreaded coolant leak of the valley pan gasket and radiator. If you drive a used one, if you smell a sweet odor emanating from the engine, it's probably one of those aforementioned leaks of coolant. Should you buy one? Yes, with the caveat that most if not all aspects of the engine, coolant and suspension have been addressed. Also check CarFax websites for services performed and NHTSA for known issues reported.

Good reliable features. Yes for the price it’s a good value since it’s a Toyota. It’s missing a backup camera and Bluetooth. I’d compare it to the 4Runner.

CarGurus recommends the 2024 Lexus GX

Summary
With 1,337 currently listed for sale and an average price of $79,992, 35.5% of 2024 Lexus GXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Lexus GX 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Lexus GX stands out because it marks a major redesign for the model, replacing the long-running previous generation with a much more modern and substantial-looking SUV. Lexus gave it a boxier shape and faceted body panels, and the new body is several inches longer and wider, which creates more passenger and cargo space. It also switches from a side-hinged tailgate to a more conventional liftgate, making the GX easier to live with day to day.
The 2024 GX also broadens its appeal with a wide trim lineup and a strong mix of luxury and off-road equipment. Even the entry-level Premium trim includes a power liftgate, third-row seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a 10-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, navigation, and advanced safety features. Higher trims add conveniences such as a wireless phone charger, a panoramic-view monitor, a semi-automated parking system, massaging front seats, second-row sunshades, an adaptive suspension, and rugged hardware like all-terrain tires, e-KDSS, a Torsen locking rear differential, crawl control, downhill assist control, and roof rails.
Under the hood, all 2024 GX models use a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 with 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. That gives the GX real capability, but it still emphasizes comfort over sporty handling, so it can feel soft and top-heavy on a winding road. Fuel economy is also only 15/21 mpg city/highway, and the third-row seats are best suited to kids because of the limited space and low cushion height.
