Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy estimate is 29 mpg in combined driving, but our test car averaged 24.9 mpg on our mountainous Southern California testing loop.
- Infotainment: Every 2025 Kia K5 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Kia Connect services.
Which Kia K5 trim should I buy?
The 2025 Kia K5 offers these trims:
- LXS: The affordable entry point, with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Kia Connect services; a smart pick if you want the best-value starting point.
- GT-Line: Adds a sporty look, navigation, wireless charging, and available all-wheel drive, making it the best-value trim for shoppers who want more features and winter-weather flexibility.
- EX: The upscale choice, with the 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, standard digital key technology, and the most premium-feeling equipment in the lineup.
- GT: The performance trim, with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, sport-tuned suspension, faster steering ratio, eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, larger brakes, and neon green brake calipers.
What Kia K5 do most buyers choose?
The Kia K5 years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 2,697 | 34.3% |
| 2025 | 2,433 | 34.8% |
| 2023 | 2,393 | 33.9% |
| 2022 | 2,334 | 33.7% |
| 2026 | 1,721 | 35.6% |
| 2021 | 1,495 | 33.7% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest mix of availability, pricing, and deal opportunities. That usually makes it easier to compare trims and find the right combination of features and value.
What is the Kia K5's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $19,671 | −9.53% |
| 2021 | $17,909 | −8.54% |
| 2023 | $22,198 | −7.3% |
| 2024 | $24,661 | −5.09% |
| 2025 | $27,356 | −1.95% |
The K5’s used prices are moving lower across every model year shown, which is good news if you’re shopping for value. The biggest drops are in the older years, while the newer models are easing down more gradually. That pattern gives you more room to find a deal without giving up the newer features and updates.
The 2025, 2024, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Kia K5 safe?
- 2025: 8/10
- 2024: 7/10
- 2022: 9/10
- 2021: 8/10
Kia equips every K5 with a long list of driver-assist features, including intersection turn assistance, active blind-spot collision avoidance, and a leading vehicle departure alert. For 2025, the GT-Line adds Highway Driving Assist, and EX trim adds a surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, side parking sensors, and automatic braking when reversing during parking.
For the safest used buy, the 2022 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Kia K5 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.95% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −5.09%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 34.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $24,661. The Kia K5 offers a distinctive design that helps it stand out in the midsize sedan class.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The new 2.5-liter four provides adequate acceleration and is reasonably quiet, and the official EPA fuel economy estimate is 29 mpg in combined driving.
- Tech: Every 2025 Kia K5 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Kia Connect powers remote engine starting, cabin pre-conditioning, and a find-my-car function.
- Safety: The GT-Line adds a Highway Driving Assist system providing hands-on, semi-autonomous acceleration, braking, and steering.
- Starting price: Prices range from $28,145 to $35,645, including the destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Reviewed a 2025 Kia GT-Line FWD on Apr 26, 2025
I only had the car 2 month but drove it to Florida (all around) and back and put on 3,500 miles. My car is a GT-Line, Wolf Grey with the Red interior, Bose speakers etc. The car is a real pleasure to drive. Very Quiet on the road, and my mileage exceeded the 36 mpg epa rating, and that’s while maintaining speeds of 80 mph with 2 people and fully loaded with luggage. (about 38 mpg) Little if any wind noise. Note that at times I hit much higher speeds not knowing since it was so quiet & smooth. The engine RPM was mostly between 2 to 2.1 at 80mph. The power of the 2.5 liter is good, and slightly better than the 2019 Camry I had, which was a very good car as well. The Bose 12 speaker system sounded great, and all the alert sensors and some other sensors like keeping your car steering between the lines worked very well, but I preferred to turn that off most of the time. If you turn on your turning signals to changing lanes, and a car is present, not only does your side mirrors alert you, but you’ll get sound notices and the steering wheel will vibrate. Triple redundancy. The handling is very good, and secure, brakes are excellent and has a very good feel to them. A very important note is, I appreciate that the 2.5 engine has both Direct & Port Injectors on each cylinder. Port injectors will help cleaned the valves and clear any carbon build up. This is the same arrangement my Camry 2019 had which greatly reduces or eliminates carbon buildup in these Direct Inject Engines. The Nav system worked flawlessly and quickly. I also love you can remotely start your car with the key FOB (No additional charge) or with Kia Connect though Kia connect is only free the 1st 3 years. Also, happily, it doesn’t have the stop & start engine control which can cause more wear on your starter motor with little gain on MPG. The seats are very comfortable as I can attest driving 12 hours straight on my first stop. The car’s 8 spd auto shifted smoothly in all conditions. Plenty of room inside. Lot of storage in the console area for incidentals and drinks. I enjoyed the Panoramic roof. The negative was the Combine toggle Climate & Media control is a bit counter intuitive and sometimes causes more effort to control. Trunk space is good, as I had lots of luggage. The car feels solid & hopefully reliable down the line. The only other negative which is because I do my own oil changes etc, is this car takes a Cartridge oil filter (Not spin on) and takes 6.1 quarts of oil, (Not 5 qts) but I knew this well before I bought it but it’s location and design is good. So it’s not a real big deal, but this will cost a little more for oil changes. Recommended oil chg is 7,500 but I’ll be doing it every 5 to 6K for sure. BTW recommended oil is 0 -30W. Based on my limited time but very heavy usage I highly recommend this car, and I really enjoy driving it. Very sporty looking and lots of featrues.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Kia K5 stands out as Kia’s midsize sedan after the name change from Optima, and its appeal starts with a rakishly attractive design and a strong value proposition in a shrinking segment. It is also described as comfortable, with good safety ratings, which helps make it an easy car to recommend for buyers who want a stylish family sedan without moving up to something larger or more expensive.
For the 2022 model year, the K5 wears Kia’s redesigned emblems, and upper trim levels add standard features. A new Premium option package for the GT-Line AWD brings upgraded headlights, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, Highway Driving Assist technology, and adaptive cruise control that can automatically adjust vehicle speed for curves. Those updates add some welcome polish and convenience, though the K5 is still noted for fairly pedestrian performance and an unimpressive voice recognition system.
