What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Wrangler?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.7% |
| 2025 | 94.7% |
| 2024 | 93% |
| 2023 | 89.6% |

| 2017 | 69.2% |
| 2016 | 64.8% |

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking on the Sport S trim, with blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist becoming standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
- Fuel efficiency: a Wrangler with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient, with an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers these trims:
- Sport: the entry point, with the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 and the Wrangler’s core open-air, removable-door character.
- Sport S: the best-value trim, adding adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
- Willys: a more trail-focused choice with the rugged Wrangler formula and available four-door or two-door configurations.
- Rubicon: the off-road-focused trim with the same broad powertrain choices and available four-door or two-door configurations.
- Rubicon X: the most fully equipped trim in the safety content, where blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard.
- Willys ’41: a special-edition four-door model with distinctive army-green styling, matching painted wheels, and a ’41 hood graphic.
- 85th Anniversary Edition: a four-door-only special edition.
- Sahara: a four-door-only trim.
- Willys 392: a four-door-only model.
- Moab 392: a four-door-only model.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2020.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,961 | 39.6% |
| 2022 | 8,777 | 40.5% |
| 2020 | 8,085 | 37.9% |
| 2019 | 8,078 | 36.6% |
| 2018 | 7,839 | 36.1% |
| 2017 | 7,704 | 35.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of availability, pricing, and trim choices. More listings also make it easier to compare condition, equipment, and deal quality across the market.

| 2014 | $15,421 | −7.25% |
| 2023 | $34,813 | −5.55% |

The 2023, 2014, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler has a powertrain for everyone, offering the stalwart Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, a more efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, and a powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and most models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission while the V6 also has a six-speed manual.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, backed by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and a two-year free trial of the Trails Offroad app is included.
- Safety: Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Starting price: The base two-door Sport model was priced at $34,227 without options.
If you're buying used today, the 2021 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler stands out as one of the few body-on-frame SUVs still built for buyers who care more about off-road ability than creature comforts. Its roots trace back to World War II, and that heritage still shows in the Wrangler’s purpose-first design. Every Wrangler comes with solid front and rear axles and a five-link suspension system, which helps explain why it remains such a strong choice for adventure-minded shoppers.
That focus comes with tradeoffs. The Wrangler’s strengths are its outstanding off-road capability and multiple powertrain options, but it is also described as having limited storage space and unimpressive on-road performance. Owner feedback lines up with that character: many drivers praise its off-road ability and fun driving experience, while some mention high-speed handling and pricing concerns, along with a lack of features such as seat warmers.
