Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, and blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
- Fuel efficiency: a Wrangler with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient, with an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers these trims:
- Sport: The entry trim keeps the Wrangler's rugged character and is the starting point for the lineup.
- Sport S: This trim adds adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, making it the best-value choice for buyers who want more everyday convenience.
- Willys: This version adds a more distinctive off-road-oriented look and sits among the trims available in both two-door and four-door configurations.
- Rubicon: This trim adds the more serious trail-focused hardware and is also available in both two-door and four-door configurations.
- Rubicon X: This trim adds the highest level of standard safety tech in the lineup, including blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
- Sahara: This four-door-only trim broadens the lineup with a more upscale configuration.
- Willys ’41: This four-door-only special edition adds a special army green finish, matching painted wheels, and a ’41 hood graphic.
- Willys 392: This four-door-only model adds V8 power.
- Moab 392: This four-door-only model adds V8 power and a special-edition identity.
- 85th Anniversary Edition: This four-door-only edition adds commemorative styling and sits among the special versions in the lineup.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,880 | 34.3% |
| 2022 | 8,652 | 34.8% |
| 2019 | 8,002 | 32.7% |
| 2020 | 7,895 | 33.1% |
| 2018 | 7,729 | 32.5% |
| 2017 | 7,626 | 32.1% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often when looking for a Wrangler with a strong mix of value and availability.
What is the Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,007 | −17.63% |
| 2024 | $37,924 | −12.18% |
| 2020 | $25,620 | −12.11% |
| 2021 | $28,130 | −11.74% |
| 2019 | $24,105 | −11.21% |
| 2022 | $30,463 | −10.55% |
| 2018 | $21,473 | −9.87% |
| 2016 | $17,580 | −8.39% |
| 2017 | $19,330 | −8.24% |
| 2015 | $16,550 | −7.52% |
| 2014 | $15,605 | −6.67% |
| 2023 | $35,365 | −4.13% |
Most Wrangler model years are showing double-digit year-over-year price declines, which can create better opportunities for used buyers. The pattern suggests recent inventory is softening more noticeably than older years, while a few model years are changing more slowly. That mix can help you find stronger value if you shop carefully and compare trims and mileage.
The 2023, 2014, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- Sweet-spot year: The 2021 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,130. The Jeep Wrangler offers iconic styling, removable doors and roof, and a strong off-road identity that make it instantly recognizable.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler has a powertrain for everyone, offering the stalwart Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, a more efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, and a powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, backed by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
- Safety: Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, and blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Starting price: The base two-door Sport model was priced at $34,227 without options.
If you're buying used today, the 2021 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler stands out as one of the few body-on-frame SUVs still built for buyers who care more about off-road ability than creature comforts. Its appeal is rooted in that purpose, and it remains a popular choice for adventure-minded shoppers. The Wrangler also offers multiple powertrain options, giving buyers some flexibility in how they configure it.
That capability comes with tradeoffs. The Wrangler’s limited storage space and unimpressive on-road performance make it less convincing as an everyday road vehicle than it is on rough terrain. Owner feedback echoes that split, with praise for its off-road capability and fun driving experience, alongside complaints about high-speed handling, pricing, and the lack of features like seat warmers.
