The Honda Accord is one of the longest-running and best-selling vehicles of all time. Honda has offered the car in various body styles over the years, including a coupe format, which blended sporty styling with the car’s unbeatable practicality. Though the coupe died with the end of the 2017 model year, Honda made the car for long enough that it’s not difficult to find a good example for sale.

Coupe models came with either a four- or six-cylinder engine over the years, depending on the generation. Honda even offered a V6 with a manual transmission in the EX-L V6, which is a combination enthusiasts continue to revere today. The car’s styling and attitude may have sharpened over the years, but its roots as a family-friendly cruiser remain.

Top trim levels get sub-luxury features like a navigation system, Bluetooth, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, a power moonroof, adaptive cruise control, and more. The car has always been great for fuel efficiency, even among other two-door cars, and its safety equipment is generous. Though Honda Sensing is now a thing in the latest models, the earlier Accord Coupe still got tech such as automatic emergency braking.

The Accord Coupe competes against a wide variety of cars, including the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Acura TSX, and even, to a degree, the Honda Civic. Midsize sedans are more popular than two-door coupes because they are more practical and easier to use, but some prefer the sportier side of things.

If you’re looking for an Accord Coupe today, keep in mind that it won’t be the latest and greatest Japanese car. Since it was discontinued after 2017, the car lacks features that people now expect, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All generations are strong front-wheel drive (FWD) cars, however, and they excel at everyday driving in a way that not many others can.

Honda Accord Coupe 7th Generation (2013-2017)

The Accord Coupe’s seventh generation and the sedan’s ninth generation brought new, more compact dimensions outside while leaving the car’s roomy interior alone. Honda began offering new safety tech, including lane-departure warnings and forward-collision warnings. At the same time, the automaker improved the car’s structure for better protection in crashes.

Honda introduced a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with this generation, which paired with the four-cylinder engine. The available V6 engine came paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and Honda continued to offer manual option for the Accord EX-L.

Honda Accord Coupe 6th Generation (2008-2012)

In 2008, the Accord (with the standard car now in its eighth generation) picked up fresh style and lost the DX trim. Honda updated the styling, giving the car more sculpted sides and a more aggressive front end. It was sold by Acura as the TSX in North America, and became larger overall—enough to be considered a large car by the EPA.

The now-base LX model got a 177-horsepower four-cylinder engine, but all others got a 190-horsepower four-cylinder. The V6 made up to 271 horsepower and Honda made the absolutely legendary choice to offer the V6 Coupe with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Honda Accord Coupe 5th Generation (2003-2007)

Honda updated the Accord in 2003 with a rounder shape, more upscale touches, and plenty of new tech. Many felt that the coupe looked fancier than the sedan, likening it to a sub-Acura model. The four-cylinder engine remained, and the V6 picked up a massive 40-horspeower bump for the new generation.

The 2003 model year also brought a load of new features, including navigation, LED taillights, and side curtain airbags, and Honda released an Accord Hybrid for the first time.

Honda Accord: 4th Generation (1998-2002)

To usher in the 2000s, Honda introduced a new Accord for the 1998 model year. The base engine increased in size, but the real story with the new generation car was that Honda offered a 200-horsepower V6 for the first time. The wagon was discontinued, leaving the coupe and sedan body styles.

Honda Accord Coupe 3rd Generation (1994-1997)

The third-generation Accord Coupe coincided with the Accord’s fifth generation overall. The cars became more rounded and sportier looking, and they also gained better interior space and safety gear. Honda widened the car but left its overall length alone. DX, LX, and EX trims remained for the American market, and the top EX trim even got a VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) engine with 145 horsepower.

Honda offered leather in the Accord EX, which we now know as the EX-L trim. Dual airbags became standard, and the car could even be optioned with an integrated cell phone.

Honda Accord Coupe 2nd Generation (1990-1993)

The 1990 model year brought substantive updates to the Accord line, including the coupe. The car became slightly boxier and larger, and it came with more safety features and more comfortable interiors. Honda killed the hatchback for the fourth generation but left the Accord sedan, coupe, and wagon. The automaker also streamlined the Accord lineup, removing the LX-i and SE-i trims in favor of the now-common DX, LX, and EX trims.

The North American Accord Coupe came with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, and variants with an automatic transmission featured special tuning to reduce noise levels. As the 1990s cranked up, new tech features like CD players and adjustable equalizers made their way into the Accord Coupe, and the cars got motorized seatbelt arms to comply with evolving safety regulations.

Honda gave the Coupe a mild facelift in 1992, which brought a new 140-hp engine for the EX trim. The updates also brought a front-end update and a new rear, and the Coupe got a more comfortable cabin with armrests.

Honda Accord Coupe 1st Generation (1988-1989)

Honda debuted the Accord coupe toward the tail end of the standard car’s third generation. It was built in Honda’s factory in Marysville, Ohio and was exported to global markets from the United States. The car featured a large, open greenhouse and two large doors, though back-seat space was severely limited.

The 1989 model year brought a special edition SE-i model, which was available in the coupe body style. It came with leather upholstery, four-wheel disc brakes, a digital clock, fold-down rear seats, and more.
