- Safety package: Enhanced Driver Alert package
- Infotainment: 8-inch touchscreen with the upgraded IntelliLink system

Which GMC Yukon XL trim should I buy?
The 2016 GMC Yukon XL offers these trims:
- SLE: This is the value-focused starting point, with 9-person capacity, front and rear parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers, a rear-view camera, remote ignition, keyless entry, foglights, running boards, roof rails, tri-zone auto climate control, and the 8-inch touchscreen with IntelliLink, Bluetooth, a 9-speaker Bose stereo, HD and satellite radio, five USB ports, an Aux input, and 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot.

- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with a larger V8 engine, magneto-rheological suspension, standard trailer-brake controller, navigation, second-row captain’s chairs, a unique chrome grille, 20-inch alloys, xenon headlights, a customizable digital instrument panel, an upgraded 10-speaker Bose Surround Sound stereo, and active noise cancellation.
What GMC Yukon XL do most buyers choose?
The GMC Yukon XL years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |

| 2025 | $74,339 | −13.51% |
| 2024 | $64,120 | −13.02% |
| 2016 | $18,142 | −12.8% |
| 2020 | $28,707 | −12.35% |
| 2019 | $25,737 | −12.29% |
| 2018 | $23,058 | −12.07% |
| 2017 | $20,398 | −10.86% |
| 2022 | $47,099 | −10.05% |
| 2023 | $56,955 | −9.57% |
| 2014 | $10,866 | −7.18% |
The table shows broad downward movement across the lineup, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. Most model years are posting double-digit declines, so there are meaningful opportunities to find value. The smaller changes at the lower end of the table suggest some older examples are moving more gradually than the newer ones.
The 2014, 2023, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the GMC Yukon XL safe?
- 2016: 6/10
For the safest used buy, the 2016 model posts the highest confirmed score of 6/10.
Should I buy a used GMC Yukon XL now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.51% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −13.02%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 30% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 30.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $56,955. The GMC Yukon XL offers a spacious cabin, generous cargo room, and the kind of full-size utility that makes it especially appealing for families and long-haul use.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2025 model's optional Duramax turbo-diesel engine's power rises to 305 horsepower, and the lineup includes a 16.8-inch infotainment display.
- Tech: Night Vision is available, the infotainment system with Google Built-In grows to 16.8 inches, and the optional Duramax turbo-diesel engine’s power rises to 305 horsepower.
- Safety: The 2025 model benefits from features that improve everyday usability, including the independent rear suspension, four-corner air ride adaptive suspension, and available power sliding center console.
- Starting price: Starting at $52,000.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

These are great now they are coming down in price. For the most part the GMT900 platform is rock solid. There are some quirky things that come with this platform, nothing major. Make sure to keep up on the maintenance and ensure all fluids are full. I’ve had 3 units Silverado, Tahoe and Yukon xl combined mileage around 500k. By far the lowest cost used vehicle to own. The only serious bad thing about these and reason for 3 stars is the body. GM didn’t use any rust preventative or e-coated panels anywhere on these. Rust forms in the rockers and wheel openings. I know I mentioned maintenance above but make sure to keep up on maintenance and oil changes by 5k miles regardless of what the oil life monitor says. Change tout the battery every couple of years, the accessories are power hungry and kill batteries.

Why it stands out
The 2021 GMC Yukon XL stands out as a full-size SUV that combines serious space with a more modern ride than earlier versions. It debuted for the 2021 model year with more than a foot added between the front and rear axles, which increased passenger room and cargo capacity. It also switched to an independent rear suspension, a change that improved ride and handling while helping create a more comfortable third row and additional cargo space. An optional power sliding center console that could move fore and aft up to 10 inches added a clever touch of flexibility.
The 2021 GMC Yukon XL also offered a broad range of equipment and powertrains. A 5.3L V8 engine was standard, while a 6.2L V8 engine and a 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine were optional. Standard features on the SLE included a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, eight-passenger seating, and automatic emergency braking with forward-collision warning. Higher trims added more comfort and convenience, including heated and ventilated front seats, leather seating surfaces, a power liftgate, and available second-row bucket seats. The AT4 brought off-road hardware such as four-wheel drive, skid plates, front recovery hooks, and all-terrain tires, while the Denali added a 420 horsepower 6.2L V8 engine and a 14-speaker Bose audio system.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the 2021 GMC Yukon XL is built for families or anyone who needs abundant space without giving up upscale features. It can be configured for seven, eight, or nine passengers, and its available diesel engine is especially attractive to those who want better fuel economy. The tradeoffs are the ones expected of a vehicle this size, including poor fuel economy and handling that trails car-based crossovers.
