The GMC Sierra 1500 years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

GMC also offers a reasonable amount of standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder.
For the safest used buy, the 2014, 2018 and 2023 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 1500 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −14.09% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −10.97%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.4% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.5%.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Base models get a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine dubbed TurboMax that produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, and the Duramax turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.
- Tech: SLE and higher models get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Google Built-In features.
- Safety: Denali and Denali Ultimate models can also be equipped with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver-assistance system.
- Starting price: Pricing starts at $39,595 for a base Pro model with RWD and no frills.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 stands out as a more upscale take on a full-size pickup, with a significant makeover that brings a bolder exterior design, a more lavish interior, standard high-end technology, and increased utility. It also adds new trims, including the ultra-luxury Denali Ultimate and the off-road-focused AT4X, which help give the truck a wider range of personalities than a typical workhorse pickup.
Beyond its premium positioning, the Sierra 1500’s appeal comes from the way it blends capability with comfort. The available powertrain lineup is described as powerful, and the truck is praised for its great ride quality and spacious cabin. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the ergonomic design is called poor, and fuel economy is also listed as a weakness.
