Which GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 offers these trims:

• Pro: the commercial-focused starting point, with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; best if you want the most affordable entry into the lineup.
• SLE: adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google Built-In features; this is the best-value trim.
• Elevation: builds on the SLE equipment with the same larger-screen tech and a more distinctive appearance.

• AT4: adds a 2-inch lift kit with Rancho monotube shocks, a locking rear differential, and skid plates for off-road use.
• AT4X: adds a front locker and more sophisticated Multimatc DSSV dampers, plus the Duramax turbodiesel as standard for 2024.
• Denali: adds the large chrome grille, available 22-inch wheels, power running boards, and premium cabin appointments.

What GMC Sierra 1500 do most buyers choose?

The GMC Sierra 1500 years with the most listings are 2023, 2025, and 2024.

Those higher-volume years tend to draw the most attention because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also tend to be the easiest years to shop if you want a broad mix of configurations.

What is the GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

Most model years in the table are posting declines, and several of the newer ones are falling by double digits. That creates better opportunities for used buyers shopping recent trucks, especially if you want newer features without paying new-truck pricing. The smaller drops on older model years suggest those trucks have already absorbed much of their price movement.

The 2014, 2015, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

• 2024: 6/10
• 2023: 9/10

• 2018: 9/10

GMC also offers a reasonable amount of standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder.

For the safest used buy, the 2014, 2018 and 2023 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 1500 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −14.74% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.32%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.9%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $43,970. The GMC Sierra 1500 offers a spacious cabin and a premium-feeling interior that make it especially appealing for everyday use.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Base models get a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine dubbed TurboMax that produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, and the available 6.2-liter V8 makes 420 hp and 460 lb-ft.
• Tech: SLE and higher models get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Google Built-In features.
• Safety: Denali and Denali Ultimate models can also be equipped with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver-assistance system.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $39,595 for a base Pro model with RWD and no frills.

If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
