Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Frontal collision warning with emergency braking and traffic-sign recognition, with the Driving Assistance package adding blind-spot-monitoring and lane-departure-warning systems, and the Convenience package adding rear cross-traffic alert, an automatic parking system, satellite radio, adaptive cruise, and smartphone key pairing.
• Infotainment: A 10.24-inch touchscreen running BMW’s iDrive system with navigation and HD Radio, plus Apple CarPlay.

Which BMW Z4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW Z4 offers these trims:

• sDrive30i: Best-value trim for shoppers who want the Z4’s core roadster experience with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 255 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque, and a well-equipped cabin that includes the 10.24-inch touchscreen, navigation, HD Radio, and Apple CarPlay.
• sDriveM40i: The performance-focused trim adds the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six, 382 hp, 368 lb-ft, 19-inch alloys with non-run-flat tires, and more of the Track Handling package equipment already included, making it the choice if you want the strongest engine and the most complete enthusiast setup.

What BMW Z4 do most buyers choose?

The BMW Z4 years with the most listings are 2021, 2020, and 2025.

Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, more price competition, and a better chance of finding the trim and condition you want. They also tend to be the easiest years to compare side by side because there are simply more examples on the market.

What is the BMW Z4's resale value?

The table shows upward price movement, which means this model year has been gaining value rather than easing down. For used buyers, that can make the 2022 model a tougher bargain to find, especially if you want a well-equipped example. The 2022 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Is the BMW Z4 safe?

• 2020: 6/10

For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 6/10.

Should I buy a used BMW Z4 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Sweet-spot year: The 2021 model has the most listings. The BMW Z4 offers a stylish, premium roadster character with engaging handling and a strong open-top driving experience.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Z4 pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft, and the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivers 255 hp and 295 lb-ft.
