- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the 750e at 65 MPGe (electric) and 25 mpg (gas) combined, and BMW also claims a 34-mile electric range.
Which BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?

- 740i: the entry point with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and the broad luxury feature set that defines the lineup.

The 2018, 2014, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the BMW 7 Series safe?
- 2024: 8/10
- 2023: 8/10
BMW now offers a slate of standard active safety features, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
For the safest used buy, the 2023 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 8/10.
Should I buy a used BMW 7 Series now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −18.27% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −15.36%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 37.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 40.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $61,239. The BMW 7 Series offers a spacious, luxurious cabin with a strong technical edge.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: For 2024, BMW offers three potent powertrains in the 7 Series. New in 2023 were the 740i and 760i, both using 48-volt mild hybrid assist systems. This year, they're joined by the 750e plug-in hybrid.
- Tech: Behind the wheel, 7 Series drivers are greeted by a massive curved-screen display that melds a 12.3-inch driver's screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment display. BMW recently updated the car's software to iDrive 8.5, which it says is a more smartphone-like interface with more customization options than iDrive 8.0.
- Safety: BMW now offers a slate of standard active safety features, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.

The BMW 7 Series stands out as a luxurious and powerful sedan, consistently praised for its sophisticated performance, comfortable ride, and upscale interior across all model years. Owners appreciate the robust engines, advanced technology, and spaciousness, which make it a joy for both city driving and long trips. However, many drivers express concerns about high maintenance costs, potential reliability issues, and the complexity of some interior features. Overall, the 7 Series is seen as a fantastic option for those seeking a combination of luxury and driving pleasure, though the ownership experience can be pricey.

I love this car I had a 740i BMW 2001 and a 740il. I preferred the 740i because of its turning radius. I’ve never seen a body style that I like better. I will definitely buy this car if the price comes due to the high mileage. Waiting patiently.

CarGurus recommends the 2019 BMW 7 Series

Why it stands out
The 2019 BMW 7 Series stands out as a full-size luxury sedan that blends strong performance with a high level of comfort. BMW’s flagship has long been known for pushing technology forward, and this generation continues that theme with a broad range of powertrains, including mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and an all-electric model in the lineup. It also leans into the brand’s sporting character, so it is not just about isolation and refinement; it is meant to feel powerful and engaging as well.
For buyers, the appeal is in how much equipment and sophistication BMW packs into the car. The cabin features a 12.3-inch digital cluster paired with a 14.9-inch curved infotainment display, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, a standard head-up display, quad-zone climate control, front seat massagers, and a panoramic glass roof. The car also offers rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, plus available luxury touches such as a 31-inch theater screen and a leather-free configuration. On the road, it uses adaptive air suspension, active anti-roll bars, and all-wheel steering, which helps explain why it is praised for its comfortable but sporty ride and handling.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2019 BMW 7 Series is expensive to buy and can be costly to option, and its poor turning circle is a practical drawback in a car this large. Even so, it remains appealing for shoppers who want a lavish sedan with serious power, advanced technology, and excellent rear passenger room.
