What should I look for when buying a used BMW 7 Series?

Across all model years, at 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: BMW now offers forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: BMW’s curved-screen iDrive 8.5 setup pairs a 12.3-inch driver’s screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment display, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the 750e at 65 MPGe (electric) and 25 mpg (gas) combined, and the 740i and 760i are also quite efficient, delivering 28 mpg (or 27 with AWD) and 20 mpg combined, respectively.

Which BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 7 Series offers these trims:

• 740i: The entry-level choice uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic, making it the best-value trim for shoppers who want the core 7 Series experience.
• 740i xDrive: This version adds BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive and is called out as the best value within the lineup.
• 750e xDrive: This plug-in hybrid adds 483 hp, 516 lb-ft of torque, and electric driving capability, but it also asks more from you in daily use.
• 760i: The V8-powered top trim adds 536 hp, standard AWD, and the most vigorous driving experience, along with luxury options such as two-tone paint or Cashmere wool interior.

What BMW 7 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 7 Series years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also give you a better chance of finding the right combination of features and deal quality.

What is the BMW 7 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down sharply year over year, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while older examples still show meaningful declines that can help keep asking prices in check.

The 2016, 2014, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
