How much does the BMW 4 Series cost in today's market?

Used BMW 4 Series prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The BMW 4 Series has a current nationwide average price of $30,961, and its lowest point over the past year was $30,005. Recently, prices have come down for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — the BMW 4 Series earns strong owner approval across the lineup, and its appeal is anchored by a 4.6/5 all-generations user rating. Owners consistently praise its performance, handling, comfort, and stylish design, and many also highlight the premium feel and enjoyable driving character. Expert reviews reinforce that appeal with a focus on strong driving dynamics, upscale presentation, and generous equipment.

Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2014 models among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs center on polarizing styling, a cramped back seat in some versions, and value concerns on certain recent trims. Even so, the 4 Series remains a compelling used pick if you want a sporty luxury coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe with broad owner appeal.

Are BMW 4 Series models reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used BMW 4 Series?

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.

Which BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 4 Series offers these trims:

• 430i: The 430i is the value pick, with Sport or M Sport styling, rear-wheel drive, and the core 2.0-liter turbocharged setup; it suits you if you want the 4 Series experience with the broadest everyday appeal.
• M440i xDrive: The M440i xDrive adds M Performance design, Shadowline trim treatment, all-wheel drive, and the stronger performance-oriented hardware and features, making it the choice if you want the most athletic version in this year’s lineup.

What BMW 4 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 4 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

Higher-volume years usually give you more choices in body style, trim, and price, which makes it easier to find a used 4 Series that fits your budget and equipment priorities. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often, so pricing and deal activity are usually easier to compare.

What is the BMW 4 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is helpful if you’re shopping used because it points to softer pricing across much of the lineup. The smallest declines are concentrated in the older and midrange years, while several newer years show larger drops that can create better buying opportunities. The 2015, 2018, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used BMW 4 Series now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −6.45% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −6.1%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.9% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $47,368. The BMW 4 Series offers a distinctive, upscale driving character that blends sporty handling with a premium feel.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Our 430i RWD test vehicle had a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, and BMW's quoted 5.8 seconds from rest to 60 mph is credible.
• Tech: The iDrive 7 system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a cloud-based navigation system kept current by over-the-air updates.
• Safety: The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, lane-change assistance, evasive steering assistance, front cross-traffic alert, and a Traffic Jam Assistant system for use in heavy traffic.
• Starting price: Our Sunset Orange 430i test vehicle included an extra-cost paint charge, leather seats, a Shadowline Package, a Premium Package, a Parking Assistance Package, an M Sport Package, and a Dynamic Handling Package. In other words, it had almost everything you can add to a 430i, bringing its price to $57,295, including a $995 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
